MX5 Super Cup
The MX5 Super Cup is the second reincarnation for the MX5 MK3 sportscar. The main championship was run by Ma5da and had 28 cars racing in 2011, but by the end of 2012 it was in single numbers due to various reasons. The BRSCC renamed it the MX5 Super Cup in 2013 and the rebuilding of the confidence in the championship had started. Numbers at the first meeting was 6 cars, but the positive is that numbers started to improve and the last meeting this Saturday 14th Sept at Oulton Park is 18 and the interest level for 2014 would suggest it will be back in the 20's. This championship is the most cost effective racing that uses a current showroom model car, the racing is very close and the cars are very evenly matched.

Am I the only one getting confused with all the MX5 championships/series?

BARC operates one championship (Max5) that mixes the two models on a single grid. That's it!...There is no other MX5 racing! Andy |

It would be better all round if there was a single championship for the Mk1 and Mk3 models, but people can be very protective of their championships, from a commercial and passion point of view, they would say why should they relinquish their control and if their entry numbers justify the running costs, which must mean particular drivers prefare a less intense championship, so be it.
In terms of numbers regarding MX5 Mk3 racing, the BRSCC Super Cup is now the main championship, despite a shaky start in early 2013, after drivers lost confidence the Ma5da run series in 2012. That confidence has returned, so numbers will be in the 20's in 2014, the BRSCC Super Cup. |

Just to clarify my comment above. The Mk1 and Mk3 MX5's should have separate championships, so long as the entry numbers support that route.
