Flaggie should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Now I have to add a big hit from V8 Brutes. Setting Winton, date 23/6/02. We have Chris Smerdon leading the reverse grid brute race. Grant Denyer is close behind. Exiting the flip flop before Penrite there's contact, and Smerdon spins to Driver's right. Now Drivers Right at Penrite there is a flag point. It's called by us guys "The Tank". It's an old iron water tank, with about 4 feet of concrete in it for weight, plus 2 fairly solid flaggies....It's surrounded in 3 rows of tyres and I feel very safe in it....

So we have a V8Brute spinning at full pace towards it. Smerdons' ute comes in passenger side broadside on the point with enough velocity to move the flag point, with said flaggies a good 18 inches. Was an ENORMOUS hit..... Watch Speedweek, it ought to be on it....

An honourable mention from today's Aussie Racers was the bloke who flipped his car several times, lap one, on the exit of turn two.... He got a great start, and was leading the field until he went A over T over A over T over A over T and so on all on his lonesome....

The biggest accident that should have been- trucks going 5 wide after the start of the race.... only at QR

Crash, that legend flipped right in front of me, I saw the whole thing and I have to say I'm concerned by the apparent lack of stability in the handling of those things. Just goes to show the importance of long wheelbase and wide track. To further illustrate my point the trucks seem able to pass each other at places where cars can't.

Have to agree there, seemed as though you hit the brakes in those Aussie Racers, and you win the lotto if you wind up where you want to go...

How about David Parson's accident at the Chase in practice in 1996 in the Seton Ford Credit Falcon.

Depends what you call modern times. Brock (and maybe Moffat) used them in '76 at Bathurst.

Yo All.

Another crash qhich has been left behind as a monumental at phillip island the first time konicas went there, when the were called v8 lites. same round where trimbole did his backwards start of main straigh.

I dont know who or how, and i didnt even see it, but a car exited siberia and came in drivers left i think and hit the wall and caught fire big time. I was at 1.1 doing communications and i could see huge plumes of thick black smoke, so thats how i knew it was monumental.

There were after pictures on the v8supercar web site, and still could be some..

Cheers

Matt H

Matt.... That was Gary Quartly in his Dunnydoor. Ask Szentessy about it next time you see him. He was first there.
