Schumacher's 'most points' record set to tumble tomorrow...,
Hi everyone,
If you're as anally retentive as I am, you may have noticed that tomorrow at Korea it will be possible, should Fernando Alonso get on the podium, for him to at least equal if not beat Michael Schumacher's tally of 1566 F1 world championship points. Of course, he will only be able to do this, thanks to the generous new(ish) points system. I've tried very hard to search online to see if anyone has bothered to calculate how many points Schumacher (and anyone else for that matter) would have had if the current points system had been in place since 1951. Has anyone else found such a thing? Just asking..., |

Dimitri Cherepovich of Wildsoft made, into FORIX, statistics that equal different drivers of different eras. Schumacher is heading Superchampionship stats.

Points can't be compared along the decades. I only count wins and podiums.

Not sure how up to date Wolfhounds link is, with regard to Alonso and Vettel, but what it does show is, how close the top guys are in terms of points.... Schumacher 12.63 points per race Alonso 11.29 Prost 12.23 Senna 11.50 Vettel 12.96 (using the links 25 points per win scoring system) |

It might be interesting to have points per race finished to give drivers like Jim Clark a chance. His car broke down more often than Schumacher's. When it didn't he usually won!

Good point. Although it should be DNFs for mechanical failure rather than throwing off the road. Difficult to do and you could take that reasoning to the extreme. How do you allow for a car that was quick because it was fragile.
Fangio must have a decent score. Didn't he win about half his races. That would give him 12.5 ish without the minor places. |
