As well as the cars out on display there they've got quite a few cars sat in prep bays too - including one of the red/white Malboro cars. I assume those are the 'active' cars from the collection they use at places like Goodwood FOS? I can't remember where it was but there was a McLaren video doing the rounds a while back that was shot in a storage unit full of old McLaren cars and components - I'd like to see more photos of that facility too.

Apparently McLaren saves just about everything they have ever produced with few cars ever getting into the hands of collectors. And not just the cars but all the useful spares and even all the laptops and electronics from that year to run the cars and engines.

That does seem to be the case - relatively few McLarens have escaped, there are a couple at Beaulieu and possibly the Donington Museum? I guess it helps that the team hasn't ever been forced to sell off cars to raise funds. The old Tyrells and Arrows cars have made it into private hands as well as some Benettons, Jordans, BARs and at least 1 Jaguar. It'd be interesting to see where all the cars from down the years have ended up (like the ill fated 97 Lolas - at least one at Mondello Park for example). I seem to remember seeing an Adrian Newey designed Leyton House up for sale recently as well.
