Joest's Track Design
My very first creation with Sketchup 2014. Still struggling with adding details to the pitlane, adding concrete barriers and adding hills to the track. Besides, I don't know how to measure the circuit accurately . The total scale is 1000m*500m though
The circuit runs anti-clock wise with three layouts: Club Circuit:the shortest one, probably 2.3km National Circuit: GP Circuit: full length, no less than 5km I'm sure. ---- Ideally, the two huge double left-handers should be sharing the top of a hill. And I'll try to add visitor routes and parking facilities around the grandstand. Last edited by JoestForEver; 2 May 2014 at 14:32. |

Hello!
Such a good first circuit, I really like it! The first few corners look super challenging, I also like the double left hander at the south (?) of the circuit, very Rivazza-esque. I feel that double switchback towards the end of the lap doesn't suit the flow, maybe a fast flowing chicane in their place, with a looping exit onto the penultimate straight? Also, is the circuit intentionally wider after the first corner? I think its a good thing, adds character etc... Need any help with Sketchup? |

Also do you know how to draw armco/hard barriers around the track in Sketchup? |

1. Draw a line where you'd like the wall/barrier to go (around gravel or tarmac runoff, Pitwall etc.) using the line or arc tool. 2. select the whole line (so it's all blue). 3. Select the offset tool, click the line, and move the cursor either side of the line. Type your desired wall thickness (I use 0.3 meters) and hit enter. 4. Join up either end of the lines to create the wall outline. Paint the shape. 5. Use the push/pull tool to extrude the wall upwards (I use 1.3 meters). It is an annoying long-winded process, and can be quite time consuming. But I still enjoy designing the barriers as part of the overall circuit design. It took me years before I even attempted hills, and even then it didn't turn out very well! |
