It wouldnt shock me dick!! Mainly because he used Xtrac on the Beemer so maybe just transferred the box and had new shafts diffs made up

THe one I want to know mroe about is Dagfinn's Talbot, that looked seriously quick!!

Scanned them in to try to resolve the Parmo, Jarmo, Tarmo question.

But while doing so - decided with all this talk of cars from the past to - set up a group on bebo for just that - rallycross past. I`m scanning the pictures in under driver names, at the momemt straight from an old album, so 3 photos per picture. Hopefully it will kick start a few memories for us all - it has for me.

So far not alot on, but Rennies screaming red escort, the jeeta fashions xtrac, etc. But will add as much as a can, when I can. Sadly lost a rallycross album of photos from early 80`s due to water damage, so most will be 83 to the mid 90`s

Good to know its debut date. I saw it first in August 1986, during the Dutch ERC round at Valkenswaard. It was then said that the owner of DSRM was the mentor of Mark and had bought him that RS200. Wonder why Mark prefered the Starting no 66, as Martin Schanche also did in his early years.

From memory I think it did, but not 100% sure!

Yes, I remember Arthur D saying it was at the time, but it was under powered compared to the "official" Escort Xtracs of the day. (why does 400bhp ring a bell?)

Something his BMW M3 wasn`t with its IMSA sourced engine.

Fantastic looking through your old snaps Stephen thanks, great knowledge as well. Anyone got any hardware to convert slides to jpegs I ve got quite a few snaps from I think 1983 Brands Hatch BRC round, be great if someone could,

Barrie, I could help with that one - but its not a quick process. jpegs are quicker than TIFF files though.

I`ve got a dedicated Minolta slide/neg/aps scanner - but its no good on slides with any dirt or bleamishes, and never had much luck cleaning the the slide without scratching them. So I got an Epson flatbed with ICE which is brillant and its software removes the dirt on the final image, takes about 70 minutes to 90 minute to scan 6 slides.

If you cant get anyone closer to help - maybe could arrange to meet at the Lydden ERC and either I post them back or return them at the Lydden BRX

Thanks Stephen that be great if you could, I ll post them if your sure thats ok. Theres only about 30 to 40 shots, they were taken by a pro photograher who came with us that day, I ve kept them in a sleeve so hopefully they will be pretty clean still.

Have you got the 4870, like I do, or its successor 4990? Yep, with ICE on it is a true snail. I prefer to scan single slides, makes it a little faster: 6x10=60 minutes.

The 4990 - but it still beats the Minolta an older but dedicated slide/neg scanner hands down for quality and speed.

I decided for the older 4870, as according to tests in mags over here the 4990 is a bit better for colour, but the 4870 beats the 4990 with its black and white results. And my archive is full of b/w negs and prints from the late 1970s and the early 1980s, coz of the pics needed for my RX yearbooks. From the mid 1980s on I did much more colour slides.

Sorry to go off thread - but your yearbooks were one of the reasons I got hooked on rallycross. I brought one on my first ever visit to a rallycross. Think it was the 1979 edition, that I got in 1980.

I`ve spent alot of time watching different motorsports, but the ERC is the only championship, I ever wanted to try to follow around the different circuits of Europe, because of your yearbooks.

I remember trying to imagine what the circuit would look like in real life, from your circuit drawings.

Without the internet, it was the only way to try to find out what was going on in Europe. So any erc or gp, it was look out for a foreign car in the paddock, to see if there was a new yearbook or calender being advertised for sale behind the windscreen.

When did the yearbooks start, and when did they finish? And are there any of the old editions still available?

Back to scanners, I got so fed up with the minolta forever crashing half way through a scan, the nikons were just too expensive, and flatbeds were just starting to get good reviews. I compared the canon against the epson, but never compared the varies epson models. I only ever shot one film of black and white, I never got into home developing, and none of the shops in my area would develop black and white.

You must have an amazing archive of notes and rallycross photos. How did you first get into the sport?

The first yearbook was the 1979 issue with the nation flags on the cover, more or less only a collection of important driver portraits, very few words about the 1978 ERC. The next one, 1980, was the biggest with 208 pages. Both were done by different printers in lousy quality. During the 1980 ERC season I split up with my partner and did another three real books, 1981, 82, 83. From 1984 on there were only brochures, rather than books, but the fans kept on calling them the RX yearbooks, while I prefer to say "the so-called yearbooks". For 1990 there was no money to find any longer and I produced a meagre thing with just 40 pages. Makes a total of 12 "yearbooks" in a row, while I did 17 calendars in a row, between 1981 and 1997. The books of 1979, 80, 81, 82, 83 and 90 are sold out, but there are only a few of the others left with me anyway. I do not offer them any longer, since the prices for second hand ones at eBay are pretty high. Same with the calendars. Some kind of speculation…

In Holland RX was covered by the AVRO for 10 or 11 years from 1969 on, a fortnight after each race they did a one hour programme with the best races on TV. As I live very close to the Dutch border I was able to see RX in 1972 and 73 on the telly by aerial. On September 1 1974 I went for the first time to Valkenswaard, just a 45 minutes drive (I need the same time to go to Maasmechelen as well) from my home, and got immediately hooked.

Hooked - know that feeling well.

So the 1979 one was the first - never knew that, remember 1983 - Alamaki Porsche on the front. It must have been when you went over to the "so called yearbooks" that I lost touch with them. Didn`t realise there was as many as 12.

Managed to get hold of most of your calenders, as the Rallycross Trust had them.

So any chance of another book? Would love to see one on "Rallycross the Group B years", or "GT cars in Rallycross"

Something along the lines of the haynes "in camera" series would be fantastic.

I'm thinking for quite a while already to produce a book-on-demand or an e-book (on CD-R or DVD), covering the infancy of RX (1967–1972) as well as a story on every ERC round ever driven since Austria 1973 (currently 355, of which I attended 252 myself), all with lots of pics. But nothing to be published soon.

Please don`t keep us waiting two long - but would prefer a Book - nothing like browsing through pages, and seeing high quality photos such as those in your calender in print.
