In loving memory of...
*she's posting a topic...well, I know what's all about*
As you have already noticed, Formula 1 has lost one of its greatest tracks and got something that's basically a joke-no place for mistakes, no possibilities of great fun, no beautiful trees, except far in the background. And, if you didn't know this before, the old high-speed sections are cut-off and the asphalt is set to be replaced by new trees...which is just a try to escape the responsibility because the new trees can't replace the old ones...and destroying a track that's a part of F1 history is even a bigger crime. So, let's be emotional and nostalgic...use this thread to post your favorite German Grand Prix memories...no matter if there is your fave driver mentioned or not. It also doesn't matter if you post once, twice or even more times. Just try it...no matter how you hated the place, no matter what happened to Jim Clark...let's be nice today, when a legend is dying. I'll go first, by posting a link to my tribute slideshow: www.liquid2k.com/hardt/hhr.pps The file is a little big, so I'd suggest you to download it and watch it offline. I'd add some stuff later... Thanks in advance, Iva a.k.a. Miss Hardt/Supersonic Squirrel/Veronika |

Why they have killed the legend? Why? It is ok to make some minor changes to make a circuit more safe for the drivers, but cutting off 2 kilometres of the original track? What would be the next project? Maybe removing the buildings surrounding the Monaco circuit.

Hmmm... A Hockenheim memory that always produces a grin... Piquet and Salazar in a kickboxing match.

Piquet actually recalls that in his Autosprout column this week.
I understand they're relocating the Jim Clark memorial. Wonder where they'll put it? |

They're relocating Clark's memorial... not adequate if it's not on the place they decided to put it before!
My greatest memory is an overtaking, (yes, they could be done). In 1996, in the pits, Schumacher blocked Villeneuve (apparently due to a clutch problem) but Jacques was upset and passed the German right away in the Clark chicane. |

Hockenheim 1992 was the first F1 GP I ever visited. My position was at the first chicane. The trees echoed the sound of the racingcars like nothing youve ever heard before. You could hear them coming from far away. So you heard the noise, which got nearer and nearer, and then a car, heavily braking, appeared from the forest. Exposed it self to my eyes for about 6 seconds, and as quickly as it came, accelerated back into the forest, leaving me with its sound floating away, and the smell of its higly poisonous fumes.
One memory is the Derek Warwick-crash in the warmup of the 1993 Grand Prix. He got upside down in the gravelpit of the third chicane. Both Ferrari drivers (Berger and Alesi) stopped their cars and rushed to the rescue on foot. Derek was ok, but didnt race (if memory serves me right). Its all gone now |

at least it was not a great race... upfront it was pretty boring, (apart from JPM vs. Kimi)
It was not a great race, the same boring **** we see on all Hermann Tilke tracks!! |

Hockenheim
German GP '98
It was easy for me,no doubt the 1998 German GP. Jacques Villeneuve looked renewed with vigour during the weekend. Villeneuve was a threat from the start of qualifying. The Canadian was only 0.5s behind Coulthard on the first run,and never looked pressed by anyone else. After Coulthards engine blew on his final run it looked as though Villeneuve might get onto the front row.Villeneuve's third run saw him get to within 0.018s of the stranded Scot, and brought with it the potential for a lurid Villeneuve final run to nip ahead. It was not to be.On Villeneuve's final run he came up on a slowing Stewart through the stadium section, and lost the lap.It was a great effort to finish third in qualifying. During the first few laps, Villeneuve was slowed, worried about his car's transmission.'Otherwise,'he said,'I think I could have pushed them.'Whatever,it was fortunate for Hakkinen and Coulthard that the Canadian's pace relaxed. Watching Villeneuve through the Ostkurve chicane, you could see him pick up the Williams by the scruff of the neck,he was just an animal through there! You could see him arrive and actually relish the thought of the corner.Elsewhere, he was absolutely hauling the thing through.Certainly,he was nearer the limit than anyone else. For the first time this year,he looked as though he was enjoying it.It was too bad that Villeneuve didn't make a better start and get among the McLarens from the beginning. After the final pit stops,no one in the top 10 dropped out or changed places. We were left with watching Villeneuve thrash that Williams as if every lap was his last. Tye |

I remember that race well. I have no doubt that if Villeneuve were allowed to pass in the pits he would've left Schumacher in his mirrors. It was great to see Villeneuve outbrake Schumacher going into the Jim Clark kurve...he wasn't going to be denied. Tye Last edited by Tye; 29 Jul 2002 at 23:16. |
