we just got the Red Bull Ring added to the track list today after yet another patch on this game, how many F1 tracks are there now in this game?

Don't know - but I know that every time I go to play it I have to download another update! Not complaining though - there's a lot of stuff been added to the original release and real circuits are always welcome.

The Toyota Le Mans hybrid added too, they seem to be concentrating on Le Mans cars at the minute, just the Porsche needed now but I doubt we'll see that.
It's turning into a seriously good 'toy' for me now, not bothering with the career but now own a Formula Gran Turismo, Senna's '85 Lotus, Audi R10, R18 and Toyota Hybrid. And the Peugeot 908 is driveable from the start too. Suddenly setting up arcade races is great fun, can set up a fairly good attempt at recreating a Le Mans 24 hours with the time adjustment etc and Formula Gran Turismo at the Nordschleiffe is great. Haven't spent this much time enjoying a GT game for years, since GT3. |

Oooh - that's good news, I hadn't seen that. I think the Porsche licence is still held by someone else isn't it? So there's no Porsches at all (I don't think RUF do a 919 do they? ).

Should probably point out that the Toyota that was added the other day is the 2012 TS030, not the 040 - still a blast to drive though, especially with the hybrid system making it a bit of a rocketship out of the slower corners.
In general I'm really happy with GT6 at the moment - some of the (all free so far) DLC has been great, especially the Senna tribute and a couple of the Vision GT concepts, and obviously now the Red Bull Ring and the Toyota. This weeks seasonal events are fun too, tying in with the Le Mans and Nurburgring 24hr races. |

Fired up GT6 the other day, we have a PS3 in the house and I've never given it much play time. I genuinely forgot just how nice it is to get stuck into a classic Gran Turismo career mode! It really brought me back to when I spent days playing GT4.

Then you turned the sound up and put it back on the shelf again!

I haven't driven a Lotus 97T to compare it to so not sure I'm in a position to say sound is either good or bad.

I do understand the criticism of the engine sounds though - they all sound too similar / generic. On the Colin McRae and 'Dirt' games (as an example) an Escort Cosworth sounds like an Escort Cosworth, an Impreza sounds like an Impreza - you can tell what the car is without looking at the screen because the game has captured the sound. The same cars in GT just don't sound right (and never have) - it's a big blind spot of the series. Have to say though - I'm enjoying GT6 at the moment, the extra DLC helps keep it fresh. |

There are three new Vision Gran Turismo concepts coming very shortly.
There is the VW GTi Concept VGT, which, honestly, doesn't grab me, but whatever. The other two do look VERY interesting though. There is the Nissan Concept 2020 VGT, and the Aston Martin DP-100 VGT. |

Still on the subject of sound, I drove one of the Formula Silverstone experience single seaters not that long ago, and their 1.6 engines just sounded like big bike engines - like nothing I'd have associated with a car at all. I'm prepared to give PD the benefit of the doubt on this one.

PD have stated the engine sounds need work, so it's obviously something worth noting and not just people not knowing how the cars sound in real life.

Of course, sound is just one of the many reasons GT fans have been increasingly disillusioned with the aging, increasingly-antiquated franchise. Dull gameplay is a serious weak point, with lifeless AI populating races that aren't so much races as parades of cars that you casually drive by on your way to a win. Players have wanted stuff like a livery editor for years and not only do they still not have one but PD went with the horribly-daft paint chip system, which just makes painting your car into an unnecessary chore. Then there's the standards, of course. When PD make new content, it looks pretty, but then they copy-paste a heap of content from PlayStation 2 and drop it into the game like taking a giant dump on their own product. They've already confirmed that car models from PS2 will return on PS4 for GT7. It's quantity over quality, and PD feels that a truck-load of crap is better than not having crap at all. You end up with a mixed bag, with chunks of the game looking really great but right beside it is a whole bunch of content that looks terrible, and PD are perfectly happy with this because they have no shame. Between all the many shortcomings and the fact that it takes PD several years to produce an inferior product, GT fans have gradually been migrating away from the franchise towards superior competition elsewhere, namely Forza. |

I think Project Cars will be a big threat for Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport.

It's a bit of a Catch-22 though, isn't it. We want an augmented/improved product, but don't want to wait ages for the next generation of the game. And honestly, how long would it take to do a truly ground-up revamp of GT? I'm guessing that it would NOT be the work of a moment, even if they cut back on repetitive models and things, leaving them with hundreds fewer cars and reduced complexities in other areas as well.
Yes, there is Project Cars and Assetto Corsa out there, though I'm not sure that the added dilution will help anybody, really. The new Circuito de la Sierra looks very enjoyable, but I think one pit lane would suffice. It's kind of funny, FM dropped Fujimi Kaido, and GT comes out with Sierra. |

GT is the only decent driving game on the PS3 at the moment, I think GT Academy is a nice spin off from the game and my two teenagers are getting plenty of practice before they learning to drive! http://youtu.be/URP4PLrsLAU?list=UUn...ljoUUhvVhBZHcQ PCars looks very interesting. |

But to say its better than Forza is a stretch. The core feeling of driving a racing car around a circuit is still way better in GT. it's got the kind of authenticity in terms of handling that Forza still hasn't come near and I'm talking about the weighting, the feel of the tyres on the road, all that stuff. I really don't think Forza is even close. Driving a car around the Nürburgring, just you and the car, trying to beat your previous time, forgetting all about shitty car models, crap AI that hasn't progressed since 1998 etc etc etc - and I reckon GT6 is miles ahead of Forza 5 personally. They just need to get their arses in gear. |
