Possum's memorial statue has been shifted to Pukekohe.
That's fine as a tribute to the local boy...but you can still have something to mark his loss elsewhere...

A bronze plaque was planned to be attached to the stone cairn where the statue was on the Snow Farm Access road.

Alister McRae's run at Race to the Sky 2015.
The 854 hp EJ20 engine has shared the bolts off the flywheel, so the spare engine was installed.

You wonder how things could have gone for A McRae in the WRC if he had a Subaru for more than a few drives or instead of the Mitsubishi or Hyundai drives.

i was advised to watch the quad crash on the first part of the 'climb'........ what a joke. poor fella was lying mid track, in view of control, for a sustained period before intervention......... were Targa officiating ? likewise with Monsters off.

blimming good to see a resurection though......should have been easter.. it's traditional date, or closer to Otago Rally to get the numbers up ?

The brass Possum Bourne Statue is in central Pukekohe these days just east of the 'square'.

Hmmmmmmmmm, the event was run under the control of Motorsport NZ and Motorcycling NZ, race control by very experienced people. ALL marshals were briefed before the event and advised by Motorycling NZ, amongst other things, for example, not to attempt to take off a riders helmet, but to leave that to the trained medical people. The time taken to red flag the race and make sure no other competitors would be between the accident and the ambulance etc. has to be as important as getting to a crashed person, as well as the safety of marshalls. Sure, when you look at ANY motorsport crash, it seems to take too long to get to an accident, but it is not just the safety of the crashed person who is at risk. I'm sure that most competitors understand this. This particular course has its own challenges to manage and I am sure the event will be reviewed by the motorsport authorities.

Having volunteered at this event for 6 times I am confident with the controls and safety.

Monster crash, he was the last car on the road, no radio reports as I was next to a marshal till they were pointed to it, that footage of the crash would have to of come from the marshal point as no acess to it.

The first trained medic to get to the crash site was there as Monster was getting out of his car. It was quickly ascertained that he was OK, but ambulance was dispatched as he has limited English vocabulary.

His crew and interpreter were in contact with race control immediately and it was agreed to leave the car where it was until the lunch break so the next part of the event could continue on the shootout course.

There are other means of communications than just the "radio" you refer to. The crash was seen on live TV and replayed several times almost as soon as it happened, as well as other communications from scene to race control.

I did not say the first people the first people there were medics, I said "the first trained medic to get there"....................

The live TV could be seen by many, not sure what you mean by the rest of your comments, anyway "case closed" as far as I'm concerned, onto more positive motorsport things.

Armchair marshalling without facts, the easiest kind. If only the people who think they know what went on and how it should be done would just get out there and try it then there'd be enough marshals to go round. But they don't, they just sit there and fire off flaming arrows.

Not quite. But I've seen it from the other side, when you and your team have done everything possible entirely correctly while looking after your own safety first and some twonk who has none of the facts gets a 'star letter' printed in Autosport criticising your team.

Oh Woolley Thought that you would have learnt by now that knowledge of a subject is not a requirement prior to posting a comment on forums nor is it a requirement when to posting letters to the editor.

It would be even funnier if it wasn't so true.

I forget who said 'the only thing more vocal than an expert is an ill-informed person who thinks he's an expert'. Or something like that.
