Very sorry to hear of Simon's passing. Irish motorsport has lost one of its great characters.

RIP Simon. The most committed, spectacular driver I have ever seen on TV or in the flesh. Anyone who didn't get to see him drive missed something very special. The standout memory for me was a EuroBOSS race in Ireland a number of years ago - Simon in his Lant finished 4th harrying a F1 Benetton all the way, tail out as always. whatever about the differences in technology and aero, he was giving away 300bhp easily.
A true cult hero. |

What an unbelievable shock this is to me.
A man with more talent in his little finger than so many other drivers, a total fan hero and someone who clearly had enjoyment top of his list of priorities. What a massive loss for the sport in Ireland and for all of us as fans. This has genuinely saddened me today. |

Absolutely shocked and gutted ! I have watched and marvelled at Simons Videos on you tube stunned by the talent of the man. I hoped to watch and meet him this year at St Goueno. An absolute loss to the motorsport world and I pass on my most sincere condolence's to his friends and family.

Still shocked by witnessing the aftermath of the accident.
It's harder to take because he was one of the best, that irrepressible style of man over machine, on the limit but always a gentleman Leo Nulty says farewell in another eloquent tribute: http://motorsport.ie/2015/04/30/gone...imon-mckinley/ A newspaper report on the funeral http://www.herald.ie/news/he-relishe...-31182181.html http://www.independent.ie/sport/othe...-31182200.html twitter search https://twitter.com/search?f=realtim...inley&src=savs #simonmckinley https://twitter.com/search?f=realtim...inley&src=typd fb https://www.facebook.com/simon.mckinley.5 Simon McKinley tributes: https://youtu.be/7teCtXOak5Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xe_cFMd3i3o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwPrwfZdgdM But this how we prefer to remember him: White Escort 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY-Tvn0pc1M FIA Hillclimb Masters 2014 https://youtu.be/trFgcNhXl9s ballyalban 2012 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmFFkRD2my4 White Escort 1 https://youtu.be/vwl40XFvpLE Knockalla https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVQHL8E82QM |
