Create a fictional oval on an existing (non-oval) racetrack
Hi there,
as someone who used to follow CART i Always liked the concept of the Rio speedway, which was an Oval build on an existing track. See: So now i created an adapted version of the Ricardo Torme Valencia circuit in a similar style: It would be a 1.53 mile ''oval'' with no banking. Last corner before s/f would be tricky because there is quite some elevation change. I guess you could change this last corner a bit by having it start earlier and make it a bit more faster corner to keep the rhytm of the oval track better? Would be a nice addition if Nascar ever takes off (nascar whelen euro series etc.) maybe? My question to you guys is: Which existing circuits with good facilities (stands, etc.) would offer ''easy'' upgrade possibilities to an additional oval track such as the nelson piquet/rio track and the Valencia track i just showed? Anybody got some nice ideas? |

Bahrain could possibly do something not too disimilar? Brands Hatch would also be fun!

I thought of Brands Hatch but figured it would be to short (imo a ''flat'' (no banking) oval for highspeed cars should at least be 1 mile), but actually it is possible with small adaptations to make a Brands Hatch track. Probably the 2nd corner needs some work though because there is now no runoff area.
(link: http://postimg.org/image/5yat4v503/) I also made 2 other tracks, in France: Val de Vienne (1.2 mile) Ledenon (1.0 mile) (link: http://postimg.org/image/ex8bl2trv) Last edited by Roninho; 26 May 2015 at 18:42. Reason: added links to 2 of the tracks for bigger image |

And here a crazy idea: Let's use the historical Linas-Montlhéry oval... No obviously not the 50+ degree banked oval ( ) but use the grass next to the oval track to add new tarmac and have a 1.5 mile (probably 50-100 meters less) flat oval, with the old banked oval used as ''runoff'' area in case of a crash.
Room enough for a track. Probably 2 million USD for 1.5 mile of tarmac though... |

Pembrey in South Wales is just crying out to be oval-ified,in a 1.98km (I'm sure my margin for error would make it 2km. Or 1.237 miles ...which is close enough to make it a 1 & 1/4 mile oval
Oh did I mention it's got 4 distinct corners. |

Like the corners (although one of them i imagine will be flat out in an Indycar i would imagie '3,5'' corners), guess the only downfall is the lack of grandstands. |

@ Speedingtortoise: you cut the track of to early or you would have drawn the 1930-1970 (or something like that) track. I think they used the part of the long circuit without the chicanes, however they did not end the oval at the current ''stadium section & sf'', but continued (so over the current highway). Actually i think in your screenshot you can still see a part of the old track continuing crossing the highway.
Anyway, absolutely insane to drive on such a track back then. And obviosly never going to be accepted again in current times. Hereby a version of the paris track as described in an earlier post: |

Sebring can be shortened into an oval. Would be very interesting to see Nascar race on the flat, bumpy concrete.

You could have the second half of the sachsenring in Germany though it's anything but flat...29m high to low points that's best part of 100ft for those that count that way.
Or a bit more conventionally Vallelunga |

Sachsenring would be an insane oval always loved the whole track, just not for car racing.
Vallelunga would be an easy build I'd guess (or is that the track with the big walls surrounding the track). Slovakiaring would be an obvious one http://www.racingcircuits.info/europ...l#.VWjh94hXerU |

What about Magny-Cours and Dijon?
Magny-Cours would require a lot of work though, as there are many buildings on the proposed oval. |

I like the Dijon oval because it looks like a similar road course could be made inside a new oval instead of a roval mainly made up of hairpins.
That Magny-Cours oval would work on the redesign I done last year. (Post 358) http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...125705&page=24 |

Yeah, Magny-Cours could work with your layout. Would be a great track inside the oval as well.
Dijon should work perfectly with the current track on the infield I think. Also here's the circuit layout with the change of direction if the oval goes anti-clockwise as is usually the case. Current layout in white on the infield. |

I've done some ovals with all of the F1 tracks currently on the calender. Some wouldn't work though because of Elevation changes and buildings in the way.
Also, first post here. Probably will stick to the track design section of the forums though :P Albert Park (1.23mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438364 Sepang (1.43mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438366 Shanghai (1.24mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438367 Bahrain (1.54mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438370 Catalunya (1.81mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438372 Monaco (0.45mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438375 Montreal (2.22mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438376 Red Bull Ring (1.32mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438378 Silverstone (1.95mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438380 Hungaroring (1.07mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438381 Spa-Francorchamps (2.00mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438383 Monza (2.85mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438385 Singapore (1.02mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438387 Suzuka (1.34mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438388 Sochi (1.81mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438391 COTA (1.99mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438392 Mexico City (2.06mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438393 Interlagos (1.52mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438394 Yas Marina (1.04mi) http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=438395 |
