Do they use a Code 60 at night - or just during the day?

I marshalled this event (Post chief at post 15, turn 10). The code 60 was actioned via a radio call from race control giving a 5 second count down. This enabled all posts to put out the code 60 flag at the same time. Likewise the call to withdraw the code 60 flag and display green flags was also done on a 5 second count down. It all worked seamlessly. A few drivers were reported for overtaking under the code 60 but this was normally in the first few seconds after the flags were displayed.
Regarding code 60 at night, all marshal posts at Dubai have flood lights above them enabling the flags to be seen by night as well as by day. When / if (delete as applicable) the code 60 is brought into MSA flag regulations all marshal posts will have to be on radio in order for the system to work efficiently. |

Absolutely agree Mike; unfortunately the proposed UK regs. do NOT require radios and will use the "flag at the start line and flowing both ways" system currently in use for SC. This won't work and will be inherently unfair, I have said as much in my comments to the MSA on the proposals.

The 5 second countdown over the radio at last year's WEC worked very well. |

They're going to be reading a lot of almost identical emails then, as my response was more or less the same (including a mention of the WEC too!). I did however suggest that the proposal was reworded to ensure that it is only utilised at circuits or by clubs where reliable, instantaneous all-point comms are available by whatever means.
