As great as the end was the one disapointment I had (aside from the WTR fumes) was that the #92 Porsche with Earl Bamber had nothing for the Corvettes at the end. The car just faded. Who knows why. The BMW's (both GT categories) faded big time in that last hour too.

DSC reports that this was due to non-homologated parts in the air intakes that lead to the "anti-sandbagging" ruling. I'm betting that they also took the Magnus Audi engine as a BOP control engine as well as standard testing of a winning car.

Had Lambo won the class, they would not have been penalized in any case due to the "it would confuse the fans" nonsense policy... so they only made the mistake of not winning (and possibly having not enough illegal parts to take that win )
Magnus Racing knows all too well you can win Daytona with illegal car. |

Brumos failed technical inspection in Daytona 2009 but was allowed to keep the win
Magnus got (IIRC) fluke free laps in Daytona 2012 but was allowed to keep the win IMSA entered the frame with Lime Rock 2013 where the new Grand-Am adopted regs immediately made obviously otherwise-disqualified team class winner, the regs even stated the above mentioned reasoning. The 2014 Daytona mess was different, yes I guess, but that whole instance didn't make sense in the first place. |

Per Racer's article, they used an old Audi R8 Ultra air restrictor that IMSA and Audi Sport agreed not to run this year.

Hmmm, looks like we are getting down to the nitty gritty. When can an air filter affect horsepower? I think this is an issue of the filter (or lack thereof) and not the air restrictor.
