Autodrome of FIFA

As we all know, FIFA is horrible (*off-topic* in many ways *off-topic*) about having stadia built for World Cups that never see any good use after. So, my solution is (because of course it is) to build a racing circuit of some description on the grounds and/or over the rubble of these unused money sinks.

Might I suggest a national circuit in Manaus in Brazil. I'll join in sooner or later.

Once the tarp "roof" of the former Millenium Dome a/k/a The O2 in North Greenwich, London, UK, needs to be replaced due to its temporary nature, a piece of land with very good infrastructure already in place might become available - a place of land that's probably been heavily polluted by leftovers from disused industrial buildings formerly covering the location - making it not eligible for housing or office space.

Bernie might get his dream of a London F1 racetrack somewhere around there in the end. We could dream it up for him, here on MyTracks! :-)

I of course elected to go to Manuas in Brazil because of the sheer stupidity of the Stadium Amazonia's existence.

The concrete base on which the stadium stands would be a bit small for our purposes, so I did some research and found that the convention center next door to the stadium isn't particularly important (and the circuit could probably provide the same service with its facilities when complete) and the Sambadrome across from it is only used for the annual Samba festival, so I took the liberty of using it as well, and I borrowed some land next the building above the stadium. After all this, I should direct your attention to the block left of the Sambadrome (you see?)

This circuit is just shy of 2.8km and makes liberal use of artificial base of the stadium.

Then I got indecisive . . .

This drops to 2.47km by radically simplifying the final sector

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6842586

Then it dropped to 2.46km by straightening the run down the base

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6842604

then to 2.3 by shortening the run through the Sambadrome

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6842610

and finally to 2.2 by simplifying it further

The design under the final link is the best and most plausible, in my opinion, as it has the best flow of fast and medium speed sections of all of them.

Also, I believe every possible promoter would want to use the whole seating capacity of the sambodrome so it won't be possible for the layout to turn away when there are still permanent grandstands lining the road ahead.

Abandoned Fifa stadiums should host karting races.

So what's been there before? I guess it's the Autodrome.

That's quite a nice idea, even though the seating capacity still would be too big and thus costly to maintain in the long run, like for the originally intended use as sports stadiums.

I tried to set a challenge up a few years ago for kart circuits inside stadiums. I used an athletics one

But stadiums come in different shapes baseball or cricket ovals as well as regular rectangular or oval running track.

In the United States, NFL / MLB stadiums host AMA Supercross races with large crowds.

FIA could do the same.
