Taupo getting $15 Million upgrade?

Hi, I've heard Taupo (Now Bruce McLaren MS Park) is getting a $15million upgrade? Is this true?

Nothing of the kind PR, the circuit now has astute management and this has attracted investor interest that will allow the Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park, to be much more than simply a top motor racing circuit.

The Bruce McLaren Museum will be become a "must visit" memorial to Bruce and has the full support of Ron Dennis to create a unique tribute to Bruce in his home country. The museum will also house a coffee shop and full kitchen to support the conference facilities that by and large already exist above pit lane.

Goat Boy has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Sounds great, things really are going ahead at our NZ circuits aren't they!

I'd heard that the Bruce McLaren Trust were relocating to Hampton Downs and were going to be involved with the museum there. Can you clarify?

Either way, it is all looking good!

That will add value to the Kenny Smith Festival, held earlier in the month, making it more attractive for overseas competitors, but it does raise issues as to the future of what have been regular Festivals at HD since 2010.

As far as I know, there has not been any announcement regarding a 2018 Festival at HD. Traditionally, HRC run a good classic meeting immediately prior to the Festival, so maybe the calendar is changing?

An upgrade to Taupo of that magnitude must surely include some covered seating for spectators?

Do they normally release the details that far in advance?

Or perhaps TQ wants to eliminate HRC, not give them any suitable dates and then do those festival events in-house. The TQ crew recently run a Toyota Festival at Highlands that was highly successful according to the reports

Yes and probably yes. According to what TQ said, the Festival was one of the track's Premiere events, one of maybe 4 per year, where apartment owners and their guests have to agree to a different structure from the normal, free access to their apartments.

Will Taupo follow the HD lead and build trackside apartments for rental/ownership? May be a mixed blessing of course! Does Taupo Council still own the Taupo track, land?
