Future Formula 2
I know this is never going to happen, and any new Formula 2 will be a spec series, but could you - in theory - turbocharge the current range of F3 engines for an open-engine F2?

It would make it into a proper formula if it was open engined, but I'm not sure if you could turbocharge it. Any engineers on here?

If only we could go back to proper Formula racing and have more open series. There have been some noises in the past but we've always been disappointed

In 2017 again, we will not see any F2 series...
I think GP2 is not that interested in F2. Let's see what happens with Formula 3.5 with now being in the support programme of WEC. |

The obvious move seems to me just to rename GP2 as FIA Formula 2, as it should have been in the first place. I'd still rather see an open formula, though. It would make it much better preparation for F1.

But GP2 is FOM property and no way they want either FIA control it or to pay massive FIA fees

While we're at it, can someone tell me why the FIA abandoned the Formula 2 title in the 80s? I know "Formula 3000" was meant to refer to the three-litre capacity of the detuned DFVs, but why change at all?

Note that first years of F3000 even had F1 cars in their ranks. |

Because, like GP2, F3000 wasn't an FIA-owned Formula.

Never have understood who 'owns' a formula.F3000 replaced F2 in 1985 and included rounds at Thruxton ,Pau,Birmingham,Enna, etc as well as Bernies F1 supports.
Just noticed Sky F1 channel has moved from channel 407 to 408-currently showing all this years GP3 to date until 4pm! 407 apparently another channel (Skysport Mix) to repeat rubbish on the other 6 sky channels? |

3000 was an FIA series? It was known as 'FIA F3000 International Championship'

"FIA Championship" is a brand. FIA controls some rules of the championship, but having it doesn't mean that they organize it.

As posted in GP2 thread.
GP2 is to be rebranded F2 from this year. Oportunity massively missed. |

Then I'll talk about F2 TWPC now? Well, first time I used that form was in 2009, with Palmer F2 then...
