Seabass wins. Good for him and Dale. Last to first. Nice start to the season.

Congrats to Bourdais on a solid drive. Not the first time I've seen a driver come from the back of the grid to win. Good to see Honda right up there and break Chevrolet's dominance. I hope this isn't limited to this weekend and congrats to Dale Coyne.

Good win for back of the bunch boy Bourdais. Nice to see Sato display speed but ditch the inconsistency. I hope he makes progress.

Race result:
Not the most exciting start to 2017 and maybe a little tentative, as teams got back into the swing of it after the long off season and with some teams having made driver and engine manufacturer changes. Honda clearly benefited from the freeze on aero-kits all weekend. As well as winning, 4 Hondas finished in the top 6 in the race and in qualifying. Let's hope Honda's resurgence continues. 1 Sebastien Bourdais, Dale Coyne Racing. Dallara/Honda. 2h04m32.4153s 2 Simon Pagenaud, Team Penske. Dallara/Chevrolet. 10.3508s 3 Scott Dixon, Chip Ganassi Racing. Dallara/Honda. 27.4985s 4 Ryan Hunter-Reay, Andretti Autosport. Dallara/Honda. 36.1147s 5 Takuma Sato, Andretti Autosport. Great job for DCR & Mr Bourdais.. two cars in the top 10 for DCR too!
Here's hoping the commercial support catches up to the car speed too.. |

Eurosport pointed out that Dixon did actually make several on-track passes to get back into third after he was caught out by the yellow, but for some reason none of it was televised. Shame that the director wasn't better.

Wow, most of the race was unusually boring. I can't wait for the new 2018 bodywork.
The reconfigured turn 3 was ridiculously tight, but there were less incident there than I expected. Anyway, IndyCar is back! Amazing race by Bourdais, terrible race by Power. And by the way, Urrutia won't be the only Uruguayan at Indianapolis... |

Congratulations to Bourdais and the Dale Coyne team on an impressive win. As Pagenaud said, Seebass was untouchable today though he certainly benefited from the caution jumbling the order after pitstops earlier in the race. Gutted to see Willy P. have a mechanical failure towards the end after recovering from the penalty to run third.

Any reason why the audio on abc races is so bad? And thankfully we're done with them for a while. Just an awful broadcast. Came back from commercial for four laps, from 17 down to 13, want to break, came back at 9 to go. All race long was like that. Nbcsn is miles better.
Race was ok. Happy for bourdais. Would be cool if he could contend for the championship all year without being in a ganassi or penske. Maybe this one wasn't kimballs fault, but he's pretty lucky to have diabetes or he wouldn't have his plush ride. He hasn't done anything to deserve such a seat other than have a built in sponsor. Seems to cause a lot of wrecks and has a reputation with other drivers for it too. |

The actual televising left a lot to be desired. The cameras seemed to be focused on the front of the field, with not much attention spent on the rest of it.

Has a Dale Coyne driver ever led the championship before at any time in the past?

Would be cool to see a non ganassi or penske or andretti win a championship. Seems like bourdais has all the pieces in place, with getting all his guys from his champ car championships in there too. I still believe he's on the short list of the top few in the series.

Dixon says: "The way Bourdais got to the front was fabricated." We've all seen situations like this in IndyCar races many times, with drivers being caught out by an FCY and their strategy going out the window. Is Dixon right or is this more about frustration?

Well his last championship was fabricated through arbitrary double points at the last race. So he might want to not bite the hand that fed him.

Didnt Dixon get to the front a Sonoma in 2015 due to a well timed full course yellow? I dont recall him blowing up about it here.
All that aside - I think Indycar would benefit from VSC or Code 60 for localised yellows |
