a rather long article about Carey/Liberty's approach for the future of F1's TV and digital media coverage.
https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/t...d-prix-913505/ not much new info here other then a reaffirmation that they are looking at all platforms (FTA, PayTV, digital, multi devices) which is great but still light on the details. one thing that caught me was a mention of a hypothetical price point for a premium subscription package. "We haven't priced it yet, but let's say, for example, 10 bucks a month to access that package. over the years this is an approach i have favoured (even advocated for) but in today's current environment of content/streaming options, $10/mos can buy you far more content a month to consume then F1 could possibly provide (think a monthly netflix subscription for example). in all likely hood i would pay for a premium subscription, but i wonder if they have waited too long to implement this and if their price point hypothetical is too high for it to be successful enough to maintain and/or produce the necessary new content required to make it worth while in the first place. i look forward to the inevitable comments about how some will never pay for F1! |

For me, a simple system that I can access when I want, to see qualifying and then the race (like I do at the moment having pre-recorded the free coverage on Channel 4) would suit me if it's not available of FTA. Unlike now, I doubt if I'll be wanting to watch every race, but if it's my only chance, and if I remain interested in F1 racing, then I could be tempted... |

fair point about how much value will they try to add by padding it with extra stuff to justify their price point...much depends on the quality of that extra stuff though.
i could say access to historical races and/or special featurettes would be a great value added but that really comes down to how much time a person has to watch said content...a simpler solution (just on demand quali and races) with a better price point would be more tempting. |

Netflix costs 10 dollars per month.
WWE Network costs 10 dollars per month. HBO costs 15 dollars per month. Sling TV Blue costs 25 dollars per month. They offer a lot of original programming every month. F1 only has 3 races per month. |

2.50 a week isn't unreasonable if you do like the sport.
I don't need padding, I just want the GP itself -- and no buffering or goofballery like that. Buffering and goofballery like that, I turn into a frothing, psychopathic maniac. So there. |

Search YouTube for the F1 Directors Press Conference from Canada. Very interesting indeed. Chase, Sean and Ross give some very good details on where F1 is heading.
I'd post a link but it's against forum rules. |
