I don't think either is better or worse. But the FCY system in WEC is certainly less artificial than the full SC system. That's why it was introduced. I have no problem for a FCY being used as it has no negative effect on the race. I don't think either is a better or worse system, but I don't think it can be said the FCY is artificial.

I’d go with FCY is better in a lot of situations. The difference is the impact they have on the race. That they both share a common desire to reduce danger does not make them the same.
A race director should have both (FCY and SC) of these and other weapons (local yellow and red flags) in their armoury. |

Just watched the replay. What a bloody moron Lopez is! That guy is not thinking. It's not just lack of experience. He is not driving with his head.
Sorry Toyota, you will not ever win if you have guys like that in your car. You *do not* take out another car fighting for a win! |

People said that about Kazuki Nakajima when he got into an accident with the deltawing. People said it about Kamui Kobayashi. People said that about Mike Conway when he made mistakes at Austin a couple years back. All proven wrong because they all have wins.

As mentioned above it didn’t stop McNish being rated highly.

Lopez just hasn't had enough experience. Generally you work up to LMP1, not go from touring cars to LMP1. He'll improve with time and be fine. I don't think he should be dropped, but I do think Toyota should be putting him in every multi-class race they can from now until April to try and bulk up the experience a bit.
On the flip side, I don't think "3 times world champion" is a relative response. He is a 3 time world champion - in single class, front wheel drive touring car racing. If this was BTCC, then he'd be incredible. But this is a very different discipline, so this sort of winning record isn't necessarily relevant. He's clearly very fast, he's clearly not daft (otherwise he wouldn't be in the car), but he is inexperienced and no amount of touring car titles are an answer to that. As I say, put him in every multi-class race you can find until then. I'm sure you could find a seat for him in AsLMS (with Toyota money), and the early IMSA races. Hell, some experience in the GT side wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing either. |
