As far as the eot goes, Toyotas mj/lap is the same as last year. Except that last year they ran 878kg. This year they run 904kg. So there's no gain in terms of the rules for them. If they go faster than it's gains from the car not the rules. Lets see what the private teams do.

Now forecasting sleet and snow all morning, with some sunny spells and 50% chance of more precipitation in the afternoon. Freezing temperatures all day. I have a bad feeling about this. Prototypes don’t like racing in the wet these days, let alone ice and snow/slush.

Is anyone at the track able to report on viewing from the area at the bottom of Eau Rouge/Radillion where the open grandstands have been knocked down? Is there spectator viewing from that area at all or is it all still a construction site?

area was not open to the public, they demolished everything to create a rallycross track. It looked awfull IMHO

The RallyX arena looked temporary, even if it was very big. The grandstand is huge but all on concrete blocks, not a permanent construction. I wonder if the plan is to take it down after this weekend and replace it with stands in time for the F1? I can't imagine there will be no viewing there for the GP.
Thankfully there was a small food court area further back towards the big stand which allowed some viewing up Eau Rouge. As a photo spot it wasn't ideal because it was a long view, but better than nothing. The other effect of the construction is that walking up the hill on the outside of Raidillon required a walk under the track to the paddocks, then along and back under the track to the bottom of the steep path. This at least takes you via the old pit building with its viewing up the inside of Eau Rouge. If I was WEC I'd take this as a bit of a slap in the face. The viewing of WEC spectators was clearly very much secondary to serving the needs of WRX. It seems painfully obvious which event the circuit thinks is the priority. I also thought there were many fewer spectators this year than last, not surprisingly given the weather. The stands were a lot busier though as people sheltered and the circuit seemed to have made a big effort with eating/drinking/viewing in the paddock area. So maybe there were just as many people, just not spread around. This suited me fine - I've never had such easy access to the photo cutouts! |

Well I guess the RallyX is the price to pay. We’ll see when the next major circuit race is there what progress there is. Especially F1. There is always a way round it though. As long as you got a good view that’s the main thing, although I imagine the arrangements must have been a bit awkward. And I’m glad the food was alright
Obviously though they didn’t seem to care much about this event compared to the WRX. Ah well could be worse |

Came as a shock to see the old open grandstand gone but compared to the weather now that was areal shock.
