Wanneroo Raceway
The long term source of conflict between the traditionalists and modernists as to whether Perth's circuit is Wanneroo or Barbagallo may have been solved with its rebranding as Wanneroo Raceway. Although not the original Wanneroo Park, so maybe that will be enough to enable the debate to continue.

Both names were equally acceptable, in my opinion.

I was there when work commenced on the track and for the first few years of racing, it was only ever the Wanneroo race circuit, Alf Barbagello was well known but as a competitor at the Claremont speedway, I was surprised years later when it was referred to as the Barbagello circuit.

Rebranding, or lost sponsor?
I choose Option A given the rumours floating around. No change for me, never used its commercial name, the way the naming rights were signed over was controversial, and upset plenty of WASCC members at the time. |

I thought they renamed it Barbagallo Raceway in 1997 in honour of Alf.... if they are now changing the name to Wanneroo Raceway, would that indicate it was only ever a circuit sponsorship deal from Alf?

To be honest, Alf's name was more synonymous with Claremont Speedway.

The deal was only put to Alf and not offered to other club members who may have been in a position to match or better the offer. Upset some members at the time. |

The culture of the club will never allow it to financially prosper, as long as the purple circle gets what suits them and the wider members pay for it, the club will remain dysfunctional. |
