Weekend Of A Champion
With a free afternoon after the Grand Prix was cancelled, I found this unopened gem in my motorsport collection of DVD’s.
Roman Polanski ‘s Weekend Of A Champion, story of Jackie Stewart at Monaco in 1971. A fascinating look at Monaco nearly fifty years ago, not to mention the fashion, the basic facilities, drivers and team managers. As Jackie says in those days driving was dangerous and sex was safe. Interesting insight into Jackie and the way he went about racing. |

It is one of best, and certainly the first , 'fly on wall ' film about Grand Prix racing (as most called it before the proles reduced it to Effone) . JYS was a mate of Polanski -now tainted goods for many of course- and his drive and professionalism really come over .
And how awful to think that the lovely Helen is now wracked by dementia ... |
