Should Supercars and Super2 grids merge at Bathurst 1000?
https://www.speedcafe.com/2020/04/27...bathurst-1000/
After Shane van Gisbergen suggested the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship and Super2 Series grids should be combined at the Bathurst 1000, in this week’s Pirtek Poll we want to know if you agree. van Gisbergen said there should be efforts made to have the Super2 Series racers in the Bathurst 1000. 2020 Super2 Series started with 13 - Brodie Kostecki -Jack Perkins -Kurt Kostecki -Will Brown -Thomas Randle ithay would be 8 cars i think there should be a set number of laps that a super 2 driver has done to qualify for a spot on the grid |

Not sure how he could suggest that after watching the crap shoot last year when they tried refuelling in the twos.
Most of them struggle to do a full season in the twos so not sure where the funds would come from, especially post COVID. |

Great idea until they cause a "pile up" somewhere then the true colours come out. People start complaining about the feeder series drivers being too slow etc etc etc .
Good news story thats about it |

If there's no crowd, did Bathurst really happen?

Can't see Bathurst happening either.
You're talking about taking a circus of people from mainly major cities into a regional town that is semi-isolated from the worst of Covid. Sounds like a PR disaster. |

Very few Super 2 teams have had the budgets to run in the main gig as wildcards in the past so it is laughable to suggest any change now.
However as for the race itself exposing Bathurst to COVID19, Australia & NZ are on track to have this thing virtually eliminated very shortly. As long as (Trans-Tasman excepted) international travel is not allowed to resume then there would be negligible if any risk to the poor citizens of Bathurst being invaded by diseased cityfolk. Regional and trans-Tasman travel is high on the list of things to be freed up in the months ahead. Dont expect Mr Andretti, Cindric & Brown to be welcomed with open arms this year though. I have continued to work in the frontline in international air cargo and there are very strict precautions now in place restricting the movement of aircrew. If Australia & NZ remain in a bubble they can open up relatively soon. |

Super2 teams have always been able to enter Bathurst as wildcards.
Was the only year they were actually locked out of the race 2004, when the new pit lane wasn’t completely finished by the time the 1000 rolled around? The fact that they are allowed to enter, yet hardly any do, shows how badly run the Supercars category has been run from a cost point of view. In 2000 we had 55 cars starting the fourth V8 1000, in 2019 the 23rd running of the event had 27 starters, pathetic. |
