American Sprint Racer Gaston Mazzacane tests for IRL

I realise this is an invisibles topic but it is too funny not to share with the rest of y'all.

Mazzacane completes rookie test

Former F1 racer looking for IRL drive

Mazzacane is keen to get his career back on track

Gaston Mazzacane passed his IRL rookie test at the Kentucky Speedway on Wednesday. The former Prost and Minardi Formula 1 driver reached a top speed of 217.3mph around the 1.5-mile oval in a Sam Schmidt Motorsport Dallara-Chevrolet and completed 113 laps.

"He had never been on an oval, period," said team owner Sam Schmidt. "This was quite an introduction for him. After his first few laps, he came in and was just in awe because of the speeds. We got through the rookie test with flying colours, no problems."

Mazzacane is keen to kickstart his career in the IRL after being cast into the racing wilderness when he was dumped by Prost four races into the 2001 season.

Veeery nice! Maybe Ricardo Rossett and Alex Yoong should have a test, too! Along with the other L-plate drivers...

I'd love Gaston to get a CART seat.

Shouldn't this thread be in the IRL and/or F1 forum?

Yeah, but it's funny enough to be here first. The Modds can move it if they want to.

I still wonder if Yoong is really that bad.. I mean he never smashed into people like Rosset or some other guys and he hasn't crashed much. That certainly is not IRL material...

I think Gaston is perfect for the IRL. Can't keep a ride or win in any other open wheel series, that about fits the prerequsites for a Invisible driver.

Yoong isn't too bad, he has DNQ'd a lot because the Ferrari's are just so quick, he doesnt crash, he's fairly safe. Certainly not Senna, but he's safe and reasonably competent.

Gaston is a different story, basically, he just lacks skill. Full stop. He was always holding up drivers at Minardi in 2000, and I am sure at Prost next year. He was so bad Prost got rid of him and his dollars despite being close to bankruptcy.

Hell I'd love to see him win an IRL race, I'd laugh so hard

Have any of you met SS? He's an awesome guy. He is cripled fom the neck down and gets from A to B on a motorized wheelchair. In fact he signs autographed T-shirts with his teeth. If anyone loves motor-racing it is Sam Schmidt! Whats neat is he also tested about three or four Americans, which were edited out of the original post here. Oh well!

I was lucky eneough to be at the IRL Chicagoland race , didn't see much crashes there! Side-byside racing baby , and plenty of it too

A former CART champ crashed heavily though, fortunately he is OK

trow : very few of these people can sit down & watch an IRL race without being prejudiced!

If any of the regular members were to conduct themselves in the same manner as the forum staff have done in this thread, they would be banned!

Go Gaston. Wasn't he Argentina's Sportsperson of the year when he raced for Minardi?
