I really want to give it to Ricciardo, but had to give it to Hulkenberg. To get into someone else's car, qualify bang last after no preparation or practice, then drag the car into the points - that's pretty impressive.

Ricciardo scored a podium so I thought I ought to - but Hulkenberg bloody hell, surely he cannot be ignored now?! Given he woke up on Saturday morning with no idea he'd be racing in a Grand Prix, that drive and some of those overtakes were quite remarkable. Perez and Grosjean also worthy of discussion.

Great to see Danny Ric on a podium again and honourable mention to Lando after still running well with a power unit problem but has to be the Hulk in my view.

I voted Perez, but really could have picked from any number of drivers - Any of the top 4, really impressed, or Hulk, LeClerc.

Hulk for getting in the groove in the race.
Ricciardo for showing how good he is. Max for driving out of his skin to keep the Mercs in sight. Checo for showing that team exactly why they should be keeping him. Sainz for coming on stronger as the race progressed. Leclerc did the best he could but possibly spoiled the race for 2 other teams by holding them up for so long! Jovanazzi did cery well too I think. |

So many possibilities this time.
Hamilton: Did the job. Raced hard and fair with Bottas. Forced Bottas into a mistake. Then controlled the race. Verstappen: He still seems to be getting more out of that car than it's got to give. Danny Ric: Excellent pace, excellent racing, and a cheery personality in the interviews. Lando Norris: Qualified pretty well. Fought his way into a good position in the race and was in contention for a podium. He even parked the car nicely when it broke so it could be easily recovered without a safety car. (Nudge, nudge.) Perez: Looked after his tyres as only he can. Right up there and unlucky not to get a podium. A poke in the eye for whoever decided Vettel is a better bet for 2021. Finally I went with the majority and gave it to Nico Hulkenberg. Turned up on Saturday morning to do a television job. Then told "You're in the car." No time to get out in FP3 so Q1 spent getting his eye in. Raced fast and safe to climb up to 8th. Why does this man not have a drive for 2021? |

Close on this between Danny Ric, the Hulk and Perez. I went for Ricciardo in the end. Great drive and such a pleasure to see him on the podium. The Hulk did a fantastic job. Perez, well, what can you say? Dumped from the team for a guy who's pretty much dead in the water. Shameful by RP/Aston Martin. I hope they reap the 'rewards' for such a crass decision....

Top job by Nico Hulkenberg after a tricky qualifying (it was always going to be tricky, particularly as I assume he hadn't been doing any reserve driver work for Racing Point). For me Pérez is more driver of the Grand Prix material, as through all of (what there was of) the weekend, he delivered, perhaps losing out on the podium perhaps due to the safety car. Red Bull need to swallow their pride re: driver development programmes and put him in the car next year, as they need to become a 2-car team.
Honourable mentions to Leclerc (fantastic again), Verstappen (likewise) and Ricciardo (really happy to see him on the podium). |
