2020 Formula Renault Eurocup
Well seems this one was missed. The Formula Renault Eurocup started off for what could be a fascinating season in 2020. Alex Quinn and a wild Franco Colapinto were right at the front of the field, but they look unlikely to be competing for the full season. Ciao Collet scored his first win, Victor Martins has returned to one-up his positions last year and score the title, and those two might well be the two to watch. Lorenzo Colombo returned for what would have been a title fight, but had a miserable weekend with no points. Lots of exciting talents in the field, Mikhael Belov was arguably the most exciting rookie at Monza (besides Quinn) but there are plenty out there. All in all things are looking good for this series, and the next races will at Imola will surely have things fall into place a bit more.

He was the standout driver in an otherwise woeful Arden team though. |

Victor Martins with his experience and team looks like the biggest candidate for sure. |

Well well...
...David Vidales. Remember the name. JD Motorsports really raised their game at Imola, but two front row starts and two wins for a car racing rookie in this series is mighty nonetheless. Collet and Martins look to be the title contenders but Vidales' presence may surprise them. Colapinto seems unable to get through a race without being involved in some incident of sorts, but he clearly has raw talent that needs refining. |

Seems we have an elite three in this championship: Martins, Collet, Vidales. Colapinto is usually there or thereabouts, sometimes ART are too (Paul Aron is doing nothing to justify his place as a Mercedes junior). Quinn looks to have lost pace, and Colombo is heading up a very uninspiring team. Martins and Collet shared the wins this weekend at Zandvoort as they did in the previous round at Magny-Cours.

Another weekend, another Victor Martins steamroller. A mighty weekend from the Frenchman, aided by Caio Collet messing up his race 1 start. The JD Motorsport drivers didn't look as strong at Barcelona as usual, allowing some other midfield names to score solid results - including a first podium of the season for Ugo de Wilde. Finally we saw some interesting racing in the rain though. The top 2 are very much in a league of their own and look set to have exciting futures.

2 weekends into the crazy quadruple header.
Spa saw awkward weather, with race 1 disappointingly red flagged early after a nasty crash for Reshad de Gerus at Raidillon, with Franco Colapinto scoring his first win since the first race of the season ahead of Victor Martins and Ugo de Widle. Race 2 saw a greasy track and Alex Quinn charged through the field to dominate ahead of his teammate De Wilde, with Gregoire Saucy beating Martins to 3rd. Ciao Collet and David Vidales had relatively poor weekends. The Formula Renault Eurocup supported Formula 1 at Imola. Lorenzo Colombo (who withdrew from Spa after a bizarre injury) scored an impressive pole at his home circuit, but Ciao Collet charged through to win the first race ahead of Alex Quinn and an error-prone Colombo. Martins only finished 5th, meaning Collet closed to within 8 points of the Frenchman's championship lead. However, in race 2, Martins scored a pole and a win, whilst David Vidales attacked too hard for 3rd, locked up, and rode over Franco Colapinto's car before taking out Ciao Collet (running 2nd) on the first lap. Colapinto was able to continue to finish 2nd ahead of Hadrien David, who looked very good to score his maiden podium. Victor Martins now has a 33 point lead ahead of Collet with 4 races remaining. With Vidales only scoring 1 point in the last 4 races, Colapinto has jumped to 3rd but is out of the title race. Martins is now in the curious position of potentially regaining his Renault(/Alpine) junior status having lost it just one year ago, although I doubt Collet will end up losing his Renault(/Alpine) backing due to his status as one of Nicolas Todt's golden boys. |

Martins seems like he is having it in the bag unless something major happens next week.
A year lost for Martins who should've been on the thick of it in F3 this year. I feel Renault played it real bad with him while insisting with Fewtrell. |

Renault will look silly since Collet's race 2 DNF (following a race 1 win) and Martins' two 2nd place finishes mean he is the surefire title favourite. Thus he will return to the academy. I always felt Fewtrell's Eurocup title was very fortunate given Lundgaard's dire Hockenheim weekend that season (not helped by being hit by a certain French Renault junior named Victor...).
JD Motorsports don't have the pace they once had, Vidales has dropped down to 5th in the championship. |

I do think there is a case for the top half dozen making it to F3 next year, Martins, Collet and Colapinto must be nailed on. Vidales may be back for a stab at the title in the new Regional by Apine thing, Quinn and Colombo i guess is all down to money.

Martins got the job done as expected.
I wonder how Renault will handle the headache with Collet. |

Martins and Collet must surely end up in F3, Martins with ART, Collet, your guess is as good as mine. Colapinto must be a shoe in for an MP F3 seat, Colombo, unfortunately i think will end up in GT's of some sort, he is the very defenition of a super talent with very little money behind him.
