Crossle 9S
Surely one of the prettiest cars ever built. I know they used 2 litre BMW engines back in the day (similar to the F2 engines of the day?) and Lotus Twin Cams, but did they use any other engines, as an eg, BDA/BDG etc etc or anything else?

As the Crossle 9S was built in the mid sixties when the one litre Formula Two was in force the BMW engine which powered them and other sports racers wouldn't have been a Formula Two engine as 2 litre Formula Two didn't begin until 1972 . For the same reason I think it's unlikely any were powered in period by BDA etc as they didn't appear until the early seventies either .

I believe there was a hillclimb 9s with a Buck engine in it.

If I remember well, the M 10 is the unit found on the 2002 for example, the M 12 used the same base but was 16 ventiler, different head and induction. I think GC got it right with the years/ variants.

The Brian Nelson car in the post below was a 5s. It's for sale on racecars direct right now. Gorgeous little cars, like all Crossles were and are. A big part of Irish Motorsport history.

9S engines....
There are 3 original 1965-66 Crossle 9S's.
The first 9S was chassis #27 (C9S-65-27) and it was the 1965-66 Harrison hillclimb car with a 3.5 Buick V8. The second car was chassis #28 (C9S-66-28) and it had a BMW M10 (BMW M10 1600 cc bored to the 2000 cc limit) It was bought new by John L'Amie and raced by him, Peter Gethin, and Derek Bennett with its most noteable race being the 1966 Tourist Trophy at Oulton Park. The third and final car was chassis #29 (C9S-66-29) ,the Wingfield car, and it had a BMW M10 as well. Chassis 27 with the V8 lives in the USA (California) Chassis 28 with the BMW lives in Louisville KY and has been there since 1970-It has been in my family since 1970. Chassis 29 -I last saw it as restored by Simon Hadfield and listed for sale on Race-Cars.com many years ago. Mike Winebrenner Louisville KY USA mdwracer@gmail.com |

Agree 100% that these are lovely racing cars - had one of the Zetec engined reproductions some years ago and had great fun with it What is the difference with the 7S and does anyone know how many of these cars were built |

A friend hill climbs a 9S with a Zetek, really nice car, great build quality and looks to die for. Has a sit in it several times and feels a bit of a tight fit, and I'm 'relatively' slim. My Lola T492 is far roomier.
Seems a sounder car build than an equivalent Lotus? |
