That was a close finish, I was actually hoping somebody would run out of fuel. I can't recall that happening in the past few years in the Proto ranks.

Amazes me how inflexible some of these people are with strategy, you cannot BANK on yellows, you have to race what you see surely at the time, another team could have pitted, taken the risk to go flat chat for the last 40 minutes and pushed the leaders to use their fuel.
All that money, kit etc yet the basics seem lost on a lot of them, they all think they can still win even when it's obvious they can't |

Nasr put his car in the best place in every corner on the last lap, but with the back markers and good defending it wasn’t to be.

Well played there sir, but how many MJ are in a DPi tank and is anyone running an undersized tank? |

dpi have fuel tank size given by bop, cadillac usually gets <70L, acura in range of 76L, mazda up to 80L. Their stint lenght is about 40-45m long, but in IMSA races FCY are quite frequent, so teams pit stop strategies may change in any second.

you do nothing with maths if you don't even know what game are you playing... it was you who posted the link of FIA/ACO using torquemeters for hypercars? well you weren't aware to have basically 50% of the answer before you... by bop, alpine was given 600hp of power, toyota was given 700hp of combined power, since there are no more fuel flow rates or mandatory restrictors/turbo boost figures, torquemeters are used to measure torque delivered to driveshafts letting FIA/ACO guys to keep power of cars under control. Knowing X measured torque in a Y time interval is quite easy to get the overall MJ energy produced by a car in an interval of time (stint). Having hypercars from this season a max amount of MJ a stint, it's basically a direct way to keep bop given powers under control and a more or less indirect way to give also a max stint lenght, oh well at least in theory since alpine can't use all MJ available without being out of fuel due its not enough large fuel tank size. At the same time none is in the position to know if toyota has to refuel each about 52minutes because otherwise would go beyond the given MJ max value or because it's the max autonomy given by 90L inside their fuel tank. As said before, portimao race with 007 in grid would clarify doubts because even if 007 has a larger fuel tank (110L) being a HYP like toyota, it would likely receive a similiar (if not the same) max MJ a stint value since both toyota and 007 will be in the same bop 670-700hp max power range. Since max MJ is given by the torquemeters measures, the only factor that matters is the ICE released torque (combined ICE+ERS frontshats released torque for toyota) making thermal efficiency related to fuel consumption and other aspects irrilevant. If at the same bop given power and max MJ/stint toyota and 007 will have comparable stint lenght it means that despite the amount of fuel still inside the fuel tank at the moment of the refuel of both cars, that stint lenght range is the max granted by the MJ/stint max value. If at the same bop given power and max MJ/stint toyota has 52m stint while 007 will have a longer stint, it means that max stint lenght is given mainly by fuel tank size, meaning cars unable to reach the MJ/stint max value because limited by fuel consumption, making the MJ/stint max value irrilevant for stint lenght predictions. Luckly IMSA is clever enough to keep power of cars and stint lenght bop through old methods like max fuel tank size and restrictors/turbo curve. Infact can't remember any dpi team ever complained about bop, even when it became a persecution like cadillac in 2017. Maths and OT closed. Class dismissed. |

We get it, you think you're doing math but you don't know 90% of the variables so you're guessing.

I am sorry. It was a joke about stints. Misplaced, but more a comment that it is simpler for people to understand because it is just tank size and a side comment on my own part in the other thread in making it so tedious.
Apologises to canaglia and everyone else for disrupting this thread. Totally my fault. Last edited by Adam43; 17 May 2021 at 11:50. |
