My irritation is not so much at the particular restrictions themselves, but rather at the fact that "roving" was very much part of the offer when I bought the tickets but is very much not so now. I was sold something other than what now exists.

As for "who needs to rove?" that would be those of us whose primary hobby is taking pictures. I'll be doing that - and enjoying the visceral delights you eloquently describe - at Brands Hatch a week later, Donington later in the year and probably at Spa in October. All places which are better in every imagineable way than Silverstone, including their attitude to spectators.

Needless to say I hope you have a fantastic time .

Point taken and your comments now understood. A fascination with photography is something that has always eluded me entirely. Each to his own though and I envy you Spa

I was tempted until I saw the utterly asinine approach the circuit is taking to access. The most open, windiest race circuit in the UK and yet you are kettled in to one area ? I normally walk 10 - 20,000 steps at Silverstone as part of my ongoing mission to find somewhere where the cars are in the same postcode ... Weird , isn't it , that you can have an indoor pub lunch two miles away , but you can't walk round the empty acres of Silverstone.

Instead I shall be going to my local dragstrip where there has been an outbreak of common sense and pragmatism .

Have people who booked for this received their e-tickets yet?

Its on your Silverstone Online account. I had to sign in once then twice to get to them. Then downloaded the tickets and printed them. Its quite long winded for something that should be so simple.

Yes. I got an email from Silverstone with instructions how to download them. You need to go back into your Silverstone account where you booked them and wend your way down through pages to get to YOUR BOOKINGS and then there is box saying PRINT TICKETS..

Typical Silverstone complications - never make it easy for the customer if you can confuse him instead.

It seems you can buy tickets at the gate now

Thank you!

E-tickets are now the norm and I've used them for loads of events - sometimes downloaded, sometimes emailed as pdfs. None was as much hassle as getting these. Silverstone are just making me angry. Their website says "for the fans". I just laughed. I had decided to go after all, but **** them, frankly.

My wife laughs at me when I hurl abuse at the Silverstone website all the time. Glad it's not just me. HSCC have done a wonderful job with the entry though.

Enjoyed my first race meeting of the year yesterday.
Was rather bleak at times, in terms of weather and lack
of spectators, although I imagine there may not
have been too many even in ‘normal’ circumstances.
Great to meet Andrew with his Austin A105, hope
retirement wasn’t caused by anything serious.
Found it difficult to take photos of track action
due to fences. Will post some after I have sorted
them, meantime here are some from paddock:

Thought it was two good days of racing which did disapoint later on Sunday, lots of variety with no one make races but do not know any one could see behind the Can Am cars in the wet.

Good to finally meet Malcolm and catch up with a few folk.

Very slippery on Saturday, especially during the frequent drizzle, but when the sun did shine, the dramatic skies made for some good pics from the rearcam.

I was hoping to improve lap time and top speed on the Sunday but a broken throttle cable put paid to that. Thanks to the marshals who pushed me out of harm's way - and thanks to all the orange army and friends whose work enabled us to go out and have fun.

For those seeking an aural fix, here's the Historic F2 first lap passing the pits:

Having repeatedly grumped about Silverstone in this thread and others it is only fair to report that I just received a very polite email (in response to a similarly polite one I sent!) offering to refund my tickets, for which I am grateful.
