Bob Jenkins
Bob Jenkins was a motorsports announcer for 40 years and passed away today after fighting brain cancer. He broadcast both Nascar and open wheel races and will be missed.

A voice from my youth and early days following racing. Noted in the article, he was also a voice in some the early games I played on the PC, then game consoles.
He had a good run but certainly suffered through the awfulness of cancer, more than once. RIP, Bob. We'll miss you! |

I was listening to Junior's latest podcast with Jerry Nadeau (which was fascinating) and heard a bunch of Bob's old calls. I can't pick out any great calls of the thousands he made over the years and maybe that's a compliment to his style. He just presented the information and never made it about himself. Similar to how you never know the good umpires names.

AJ Allmendinger gave Bob a shout out at THE Speedway yesterday in his victory interview. Nice touch from him.

Bob Jenkins is the voice of the Indy 500 radio and of NASCAR Winston Cup. Winston Cup died in the early 2000's. My interest in NASCAR ended then too.
Funny when many of the classic commentators like Jenkins and the late Bobby Unser stopped being reguars on TV that is when I stopped watching those forms of racing too. Jenkins seemed like a great man. May God grant the repose of his soul. |

Bob received the Robin Miller Award a couple months ago. I thought this would be appropriate.
