For me it's one of the reasons for not liking DTM. In Australia they show a championship doesn't need team orders. |

It's team tactics when one team does it. When a manufacturer gets a number of teams to orchestrate a certain result it's called race fixing. In other sports this kind of behaviour gets people banned from competition.
Imagine in F1 Toto Wolff getting McLaren, Aston Martin and Williams to so obviously pull over to wait for and waive by Hamilton into a higher points position to secure the WDC? They'd be excluded from the season's standings and likely slapped with a 9-digit fine. Meanwhile in DTM the incident didn't even make the official highlights reel from that race. That's all you need to know. Last edited by Pandamasque; 15 Oct 2021 at 00:01. |

If it was that obvious, it wouldn't go without consequence.

The thing manufacturers can support more than one team and that's always going to be a problem. Just have to make sure the championship is wide open till the end between different makes

Oh right, so the DTM thread is here.
Having come up to speed in what happened at the final round. Something has to be done about the conduct of vd Linde. You just cannot let that guy off the hook, and cannot leave precedent exist. Having discussed this elsewhere. Under the circumstances, it would be reasonable to allow the steward to cancel the race or declare it non-champinship if such a scenario were to occur again. It's one thing to puff your chest before a race, it's one thing to think it. But it's another to do it. Hopefully, we'll see vd Linde's career decline in the coming years. |

I was discussing this race again with a friend last night and he pointed out another example of a manufacturer asking one team to move over for the benefit of a separate team allowing them to win the championship, this time AMG was the victim.
In 2019 the IGTC championship was decided at Kyalami when Porsche ordered the GPX Porsche to move over and allow the Frikadelli Porsche into the lead, ultimately allowing them to win the championship. I'm sure there are more examples but its pretty common in sportscar racing. I believe the main reason its been blown out of proportion this time is because Ferrari was the victim here. |

Enough with the personal attacks, lets get back to the topic.

Today in Qatar Gasly was ordered to let Verstappen pass for third place and did so by not opening DRS on the straight until Verstappen had passed. No consequences, not even a mention on the broadcast.

Ahh why I'm not surprised... Hypocrisy screams here but that's Red Bull. Everything is ok when winning. Lawson's claim that he doesn't want to compete in DTM just because he lost the title is a denial of anything associated with sportsmanship. Sometimes you have to have balls to accept defeat no matter what circumstances there are.
I'm honestly happy Lawson and Red Bull won't be part of DTM next year. |

TBH Lawson's priority is and always has been single seaters. The DTM tin top drive came a bit out of left field. Red Bull no doubt had their own reasons to put him in there, possibly to use Albon as a performance yardstick, possibly to toughen him up in a fender bender run them off the road class, who knows? Certainly there's a element of that in F1 these days too, so maybe a good all round learning experience.
I doubt he would have been doing another DTM season even had he won. He must obtain top results in F2 this season and he and Red Bull know diluting his efforts with another DTM campaign would compromise that. |
