An unwelcome gatecrash in Melbourne
Promoter World Touring Melbourne is seeking millions of dollars in compensation for the last-minute cancellation of the 2020 Australian Grand Prix.
The promoters will be taking Australia’s Grand Prix corporation to Victoria’s Supreme Court for $8.7 million lost, which includes production costs, venue hire and entertainment. World Touring Melbourne is expected to have lost at least $2 million for each performer that was set to play in 2020. Melbourne is set to welcome up to 130,000 attendees this weekend for this year’s Australian Grand Prix. https://www.skynews.com.au/australia...9c7eb096bf022a |

It's a shame there's been no GP for the last couple of seasons. I'm just glad it's back this year. But I can understand how annoyed the promoters are that they GP circus travelled all the way there, only to cancel the day before practice when everything was ready. Especially as they didn't run the race later in the year either
But I am looking forward to this GP, great to have the Oz GP back, should be a great weekend and hopefully we can have a race to remember |

That the event did not proceed was not the fault of AGP corp or anyone involved. It was cancelled on health advice for the health and safety of all involved and spectating- an act of god or force majeure. Nobody acted in bad faith or stuffed up.
The whole world suffered with Covid, including the Australian Grand Prix corporation everyone felt pain. It seems selfish for one promoter to sue another company for losses resulting from it. Leaves a sour taste. |

Most/many contracts have a 'force majeure' clause, so this may just be a legal play to try and get something, rather than nothing. If there was substance to the claim, I would have expected the claim much closer to the cancelled event.
