Can't remember James Pickford (although I think he did Seat later on?) but yes, definately Dave Warnock - only winner and therefore champion.

*Dons anorak*
Wasn't the only race a non points scoring round, so he couldn't be 'champion'

I wondered where I'd left that anorak

You're probably right and it probably didn't have Championship status from the MSA but being champion sounds better I'm sure

Nice link to the race report Happy Snapper

From the site, it was a 75 minute race 2-driver sportscar event. The stupid gimmick was that there were lots of onboard cameras (and IIRC wanted Bernievision style coverage), complete access to the telementary and radios - and, wierdly, the drivers were wired up to heart rate monitors. The last bit is really odd. No, really. Why would anyone really find that info interesting?

The Interactive Sportscar Championship was set up in 2001 by ex sportscar racer Dominic Chappell. The idea was that with broadband uptake increasing, a series could be broadcast over the internet; the viewer complete freedom as to what they watched, be it trackside cameras, on board shots from a variety of different angles, plus access to radio communication and drivers heart rates. Also a camera shot would be available of the cars' dashboards so that the viewer could find out the revs a car was using, which gear, fluid temperatures and so on.

With regards to cars; the regulations were similar to the British GT championship. As a result, aside from the Lister Storm, the race also featured Marcos LM600, Chrysler Viper GTS-R, Porsche 993 GT2, Chevrolet Corvette, Stealth B6 and a Venturi. A couple of Nissan Skylines and Ferrari F40s were enetered for the Donington race, but didn't show.

Sounds like a good idea to be honest, but surely it would be easier to incorperate the interactive part to a current championship, i.e. F1 or WTCC.

I often sit, thinking, 'if only I knew the drivers heart rates, that would make this even more enjoyable'

When I was doing F1 ten years ago the drivers were wired up to pulse monitors in the team I was with. I assume the same is true now.

ISC might have been a good idea at one stage, but then the BRSCC got involved.

The series was also setup in a kind of 'franchise' way, in that a team bought two spots on the grid, & there was a limit in the amount of cars per model (2 or 4 from memory).... ie you couldn't have a field with 10 Vipers in it.

A team was supposed to run a pair of Abt Audi TT-Rs from the DTM also (the actual team name was Abt Sportsline UK from memory)

As for SCV8, as with most things, it came at the wrong time.....a pity it couldn't have been pitched abit earlier as a replacement for Super Touring in the BTCC (from memory, weren't there even rumours, perhaps thats all they were, that BHP were considering adopting straight DTM2000 rules for the 2001 BTCC, when the 'new DTM' was pitched as being cost-effective?)

The plan was for punters to pay for live on-board clips like this http://www.listercars.co.uk/videoclips.htm

Put your headphones on or turn the volume up cannot remember if it's this clip or another were DW takes an F3000 car under the bridge!

The series was launched with great fanfare. Didn't the demo Jag even make a visit to the actual X Type factory? Then they said they would take a year hiatus to fully prepare and now it's up for sale in Autorsport.

I feel really bad for Andy Rouse--first his stillborn ST Toyota Corolla and now his SCV8 Jag X Type. That's 2 out of 2 failures?

I wouldn't call his previous cars failures, like the Mondeo or the Carina.

Don't you mean BMP? British Motorsport Promotors.

Incidentally, what happened to BMP, and Octogon and BETA (British European Touring entrants Association? All these early noughties abbreviations just vanished into thin air!

Too many years watching Barrie Hinchcliffe's rally films have instilled the BHP name into my brain!

Wasn't there one fundamental problem with the idea of ISC though? The fact that there was already a British GT Championship - in that light, it made about as much sense as trying to promote a new touring car series for S2000 and BTCC-spec cars with a load of interactive online coverage would now....

That's right- a team entered two cars, and no other team could run that type of car. The full list is as Kipper posted. The rest of the season, if it had ever happened should supposedly have seen the F40s and Skylines Kipper mentioned, the ex-DTM Audis, and Aston Martins...

There are a couple of tenuous links to the BTCC in the whole story (apart from James Pickford)- Roger Walters' pair of Corvettes were the original 'Atomic Kitten'-backed entries.

If I remember rightly, the plan was for a pair of full-spec GT1 Pratt & Miller customer C5Rs, which never materialised- instead they showed up at Donington with the ex-Owen Trinkler ALMS GT2 Vette and a second lower-spec car (maybe ex-Speed GT series or similar?). After the ISC folded, Walters ran the GT2 Vette in a couple of British GT and ELMS rounds,
http://www.racingsportscars.com/phot...-07-15-068.jpg

before the 'Atomic Kitten Racing' idea was revived in the 2002 BTCC with a pair of MGs.

The ex-Atomic Kitten GT2 Corvette went on to be raced in British GT, Belcar, Britcar etc for the next few seasons by Xero Competition, before they got involved with their BTCC Lexus project

Wasn't resurrecting Team Nuclear Cat more of a ploy by WSR to enter two more cars? I don't think you're permitted to enter four cars for BTCC. If I recall correctly (which I rarely do) the team was totally owned by WSR, they just painted them up as Team Atomic Kitten.

You can enter as many BTCC cars as you want. TAK was run out of WSR workshops using WSR equipment.

Not quite; West Surrey Racing secured funding to run two independent MGs for Colin Turkington and Gareth Howell. This was seperate to the deal with MG Sport and Racing to run the works cars in the 2002 BTCC.
