Why shouldn’t it be a forgone conclusion that a massively faster car can get by a slower competitor with ease?

I'm not sure it should ever be 'with ease', should it? Certainly not with the 'embarrassing' ease that DRS provides.....

I’d like to know the relevant physics figures from the various surfaces and how it compares to previous seasons rulesets. Like for example how much DF are the floors generating and how much the front and rear wings. I think a 2004 F1 car generated about 1400kg of downforce but I have no idea about current cars.

i prefer idea of "overboost" or powerbump, that you only get a limited amount of, you can use it whenever you want, but once you have used your limit for the day, thats it
Another strategy game |

but surely the cars already have this with their ERS giving them about 160 extra horses for about 30s per lap.
they are of course free to use this as either a defensive or offensive tool. |

As chillibowl implies, a faster car should be able to pass a slower one. The whole point of a race is to find out who is fastest. If a slow car passes a faster one just because of the use of DRS, the positions will reverse again on the next lap when the faster car uses the DRS. But I can't remember that ever happening. |

chillibowl, I admit you had me stumped there when I read your post when I got up. It's a fair point and we have to question what a motor race is, but ultimately if it were just about being the quickest, we might as well give the championship trophy to Red Bull now, as we know they're fastest. Or just run the cars individually on the track or look at their data. It's a mix of things that make up an F1 race and inevitably, people will disagree on what they are.
Is it only that? |

Yes, DRS solved a problem, but has created a problem in that there are now too many DRS zones and cars breeze past each other. Drivers (generally) know that there is no point defending because the speed differential is just too great thanks to DRS. It has gone way too far in this direction because it seems to be perceived that 'any overtaking is good'. Personally I think that DRS has become an embarrassment, the opposite of good racing in that it isn't really racing at all.
