Robin Marriott should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Can't find a picture

I'm trying to find the photo of two cars (Escorts or Cortinas maybe) doing a syncronised rollover at a corner, probably from the BSCC in the 60s.

I know I've seen it but it's driving me mad not being able to locate it.

Can anyone help?

Hi Robin sorry for the delay in acknowledging your request.

Interesting query, I have a feeling i've seen.the same image somewhere too.

My instant thought was that it must be rallycross related but then I was wondering if i'd seen Brian Robinson totalling a Cortina in such a fashion?!

Any other contributors got some ideas?

Could it be the second round of the 1965 BSCC, at Oulton Park?

'Mike Campbell-Cole and Phil de Banks completed the podium, although all were fortunate to avoid the accident which claimed John Fitzpatrick and Andre Baldet's cars. The pair, having duelled since the start of the race, made contact while Fitzpatrick led in Class B, resulting in both cars rolling.'

Andre Baldet was in a Lotus Cortina, with John Fitzpatrick driving this Mini -

I don’t think it was rallycross, although it could have been. It’s on a tarmac surface, the photographer is stood inside a corner looking down on the cars, as if they’re stood on a tyre wall.

The picture I have in my head was definitely two of the same car. I’m guessing it was BSCC but it could have been any 1960s touring car formula.

The car is a bit hazy, I think it was a pair of old Fords but I can’t remember which and now you’ve posted a Mini it could have been two of them. That’s the problem with not being able to find the picture, I can’t be exactly sure what it was of!

I’ve searched high and low on Google, I’ve had a look through various motorsport image archives and even checked the crash archive in another site.

I think I remember seeing the photo you are looking for. I may be wrong but i have a recollection that it was two Lotus Cortinas or Escorts as you suggest.
I think it was a prize winner for one of the film manufacturers, and used in there advertising. Good luck finding it.

I think I've found it and if I have, I've misremembered it a little.

I must have had it mixed in with other 60s/70s touring car photos.

Certainly looks like it, I can’t think of anywhere else it could be.

Now I just need to work out who and when it was but I don’t think that’s going to be easy.

Could it have been a Mexico Challenge race?

Googling “Shellsport Mexico Challenge” got me this picture as mentioned earlier in the thread.

The only other pictures online show all of the cars having number plates though so I’m not so sure.

Also, there’s a program online from the 1974 race and they used the short layout at Brands which that is definitely not.
