I restored a BT10 that I bought from Bob McKay and sold to Joe Maria, which I believe he still retains. There were no numbers on that car at all.
Joe Maria also had another BT10, that I had some dealings with, this was F2-14-64, that he bought from Jerry Morici, who he acquired from Joe Mazza. This car was sold thru Mark Leonard at Grand Prix Classics. David Irwin Evergreen, CO. |

I also presently have a BT10 that has no numbers. This car was believed to be a BT16 when owned by Rafael Costa. I purchased car and realized it as a BT10. The car was purchased out of the Franklin Institute (Philadelphia Transportation museum) by Ian Carpenter who sold it to Costa. and it included a SCCA log book back to 1972 driven by F. Nelson Petrey. Raced at Lime Rock, Bryar, Watkins Glen. Car was red with NEPE written on the side, ran FC w/ Cosworth SCA. Petrey purchased from Harry C. Kahn in 1972.
So: Kahn to Petrey to Franklin Inst. to Carpenter to Costa to Irwin. Any help in identifying this car would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. David Irwin Evergreen, CO. |

David
Two BT10s appear in FC in 1968, one for Curt Erwin and the other for Neil Hansen. I'll try and find out home towns for them. I suspect that one of these is the ex Oliver chassis 14, which doesn't appear in UK after 1967 - but then by 1967 most BT10s have vanished from European formula races. Chris |

Brabham BT10
I have purchased a Brabham BT10 from David Irwin. With reference to
David's previous posts, any help with the history of the car would be greatly appreciated. Interestingly, the gearbox is a Hewland mk7 ... and the serial number stamped is Mk 7-1... First one? Any Hewland wizards out there have any history on the Hewland mk7 ? |

No history as such , however a MK. 7 is a 6 speed for the 1000cc F2 cars of 1964/5/6/ with the Cosworth SCA and a few cars with 1.0 litre BRM and in 1965/6 the Honda engines for the works Brabham team , if it says MK7-1 it will be the first one produced after prototype/s .
Is it actually still in 6 speed form or has it been converted back to 5 speed ? |

Brabham BT10 /Hewland mk 7
Yes, the mk 7 is still in 6 speed configuration and has a cam and pawl
limited slip diff. I am considering setting up as 5 speed for current monoposto. |

I owned the Brabham mentioned when I raced it for Baldyne Engineering and sold it on to Geoff Oliver - I never raced for Dave Walker It gained the St Johns Ambulance trophy presented by the Dave Clark Band with the outright single seater lap record at Brands Hatch. If you want futher info I could check my records for any specific questions regards Denis O'Sullivan Ireland |

I think that the Walker car might have been a Team Promecon entry My first question would be about a BT16. Did you get an SCA engined BT16 in 1965? [chassis F2.7.65 I think] Did it sell to Sweden at the end of the year [Lars Lindberg or Jean Johansson] Best regards Chris |

Old race entry sheets
During my research on Alfa Romeo race cars, i have found and bought a collection of old race documents from he 60´s (entry sheets/technical inspection sheets) from Italy, these also included documents regarding the following cars:
F2-6-64 F2-12-64 I would like to sell these documents to the owners of the cars, so if you are an owner of any of these cars, please send me a private mail. Kind regards Patrick Dasse Hamburg, Germany |

Brabham at BMW Munich...
Not sure if this is the best place for this but seems like the best option....
I have recently been discussing the history of the car purchased from Brabham by BMW with a friend who looked after the archive at BMW for many years. In BMW`s photo archive the car is always described as one of the three BT-7`s but I noticed on Allens oldracingcars website that he mentions that the suspension does not look like a BT-7. BMW bought the car for some world record attempts fitted with a two litre four cylinder Apfelbeck engine, interestingly the man that did the work on the car always described it as an F2 car on internal documents and in his book. Years ago my friend wrote to Sir Jack asking him about this F1 car, his reply just said `this was never an F1 car` but no indication as to what it was. The car arrived at BMW in December 1965 apparently in very used condition. There has never been any mention of a chassis number as BMW put their own number on it. The obvious thing would be to try and find the original chassis number which I am working on but exactly where would this be located ? We are thinking now that this is actually a BT10 F2 car...and it seems that not all of these are accounted for...any help appreciated...Alex. |
