Pretty much the only thing of note in the whole race other than the L1 shunt.

Fair comment. For me, I personally give the score for the race, not for qually. If I included both, my '1' would have been increased to maybe a '3'. Qually was entertaining, but then it usually is. But even the most enthralling qualification session I could possibly imagine (which this one wasn't - to me) wouldn't have made more much in the way of inroads for my rate the GP score.

I'm going to stick my neck out and confess that I found it rather fascinating. I gave it a 7.
On the one hand, I thought it ridiculous that deliberately driving slowly should be such a common tactic (we see this at other tracks, but rarely on such a visibly blatant scale), but here it added a curious dimension - as mentioned by others, would someone manage an overtake on someone driving slowly and opening up a big risk of a move? Or would someone get frustrated being trapped behind and 'send it'? What would it mean for the pit stop windows? It's not my favourite way to go racing at all. But I've seen worse Monaco races, where there is little racing, but a higher average pace (and with cars much more spread out). Then, you had some tension for the race won between Leclerc, a driver at home, and Piastri, who has never won a Grand Prix. And my 7 is despite the fact I didn't even have that, because although I didn't know it, I suspected Leclerc had won from some things I picked up from people around me (I just returned home and watched it last night). And there were some overtakes! |
