AGP 2024

My application to be a volunteer official at the 2024 Australian Grand Prix has been submitted, looking forward to the opportunity of working with a great team again.

I'm hoping to get into fire marshalling in Queensland after I get back from Le Mans next month. What sort of timeframe would there be before one might be accepted for the likes of the AGP?

In the UK one has to work up through course to fire. Normally here you have to have at least a years experience at a particular grade before being invited to marshal a GP. It's be a few years since I last attended a GP, as a marshal, so things might have changed. In Australia your rules could be different.

In my jurisdiction at least it seems you can get straight into fire. But obviously need to go through training and probation as well.

Most of the info you need is here:

https://motorsport.org.au/docs/defau...tion-guide.pdf

I can't find the specific details for the AGP, but for the British GP you need to be:
  • Minimum qualification at Grade 1 (equiv to Bronze in Australia, or General Official with lots of experience)
  • A minimum of 12 days volunteering in the role applied for in the previous calendar year
  • Available for all 4 days of the event

With the number of people applying each year, the more experience and further up the grading structure you are, the more likely you are to get a place - albeit the further up the grades you get, the fewer positions there are to fill!

No doubt the fine members of QMROA would be able to guide you.

Cheers, appreciate it.

Hopefully will have enough experience under my belt come 2026 or 2027.
