Donington Masters Aug 3/4
Looks like a great programme over the 2 days.
Need to check entry lists before committing to going but if the weather is good it'll be great for entrants and speccies |

It could be although it's a bit close to the Silverstone "Classic". which could affect entries.

HRDC saves the day?
Overall it's not a bad entry, F1 and endurance cars were always likely to be thinner cause of the classic as some have mentioned although F1 would look much better even with just 15 rather than 11! The GT 'modern classic' series looks pretty healthy, and there's an invitational bang upto date GT4 Supra entered, somehow. Think i'll go on Sunday, bit more racing. |

Looks like Tordoff has some competition in the Masters pre-66 qualy, although he's now got the edge on Ruddell/Ingram's Mustang. Field entirely composed ot Falcons/Mustangs and Lotus-Cortinas, except for one BMW 1800.....16 cars out on track.

And in the race Tordoff dominated by almost a minute, with only 3 other cars on the same lap - Spiers/Greensall in a Mustang in second, Simpson (Lotus Cortina) third, and Davison (Mustang) fourth....

In some ways, I do feel sorry for Tordoff, because winning like that is not much fun., and I speak having had that experience once. It was a race at the old Snetterton in the 60s, and after about 5 or 6 laps, the only other car I was actually racing against crashed out, and left me to literally cruise to the chequered flag, having lapped pretty well all the grid. I have never really understood how I won that race so easily, because a lot of the other cars on the grid - it was a round of the Redex Championship - were regulars, one such being Roger Taylor in his twin-cam Escort, and it would normally have been quite a close race. My avatar picture was taken of me crossing the line at the the end of the race, which had become a bit of a Sunday drive without much fun. |

It's all a bit sad really, the "festival" type of organisations appear to be struggling with entries. Not entirely certain why, but one reason may be the increased presence of professionals and the costs of trying to keep up.
But as mentioned above HRDC is providing full grids albeit the Allstars is combined with the Alfas, a situation that has been running for some years. |

As with so many things these days from shows, events, everyone wants their own little piece of pie and they will destroy racing to get it. I leave them to it, gave up watching historic stuff a long time ago, for this very reason
The big events dont help, neither do the costs tog et in for punters, but it seems to work, they are welcome to it |

I'm going to Festival Italia at Brands this weekend - for the Alfas, of course, where the ARCA series have what is sadly, for this year, a good 16-car entry for their two races. Also on the entry is HRDC Jack Sears Trophy which normally seems to get a decent grid, and two Ferrari series - the Bell Sport Challenge and the Superperformance Ferrari Club Classic with two races each.
Be interesting to see what the grids are like...... |

Visited on Sunday, when I went to see a friend competing.
Was surprised at 'large' crowd as I thought low number of entries would have put people off going. Perhaps many were unaware of entry list and came away, understandably, thinking they didn't get value for money. HRDC race was particularly good, some others not very exciting. |

It was much busier than I expected and the racing was bloody good on the whole.
Some intertesting driving tactics from the black Vantage GT2 in the classic GT race Bizzarely holding up a Mosler which was tryimg to lap it whilst chasing down a Lambo, instead enterimg imto a lurid battle with the wrong Porsche and puntimg it off on the last lap at Redgate! Crazy stuff. F1s were glorious if only a few cars but the sound carried around the whole place! Move of the day was from Chris Smowdon in the Alfetta GTV the Allstars race. Approaching the Old Harpin chasing an Elan but with backmarkers all around but, he just swept around the outside of the lot and came out ahead of the Elan. Cracking bit of racecraft! |

Popped along on Sunday.
All round much better than I had anticipated. It seemed that most cars that had experienced failures of some sort still made it back out to later grids. That's good, since otherwise the grids can become extremely thin by Sunday PM. Some excellent racing and not much safety car activity by today's standards. Indeed not much disruption by yellow flag incidents either. As already mentioned, the spectator areas were not exactly crowded but there were far more people around than I had expected. |
