totally and to riff on that point...
episodes like the Reb Bull flex wings from years back or even Ferrari burring oil debates used to generate a lot more partisanism here and across the fan base with more heated discussions often with one side accusing the other side of 'cheating'. perhaps the FIA dealing with these sorts of episodes in an more subtle private manner has also lead to a decrease in in fan outrage? makes sense really as its in all of our interests to see less acrimony between the teams which then hopefully translates into less acrimony across fandom. also there is a difference between being 'clever' and 'cheating' so it serves no one (including brands and sponsors) when the former is being confused for the latter. if that makes sense. |

When Charlie was running the show, a lot of things were quietly put to bed before they became public knowledge. One of the things he really wasn't fond of was having the wool pulled over his eyes; he'd rather know and be unable to disapprove of something under the existing rules, than not know and find out later.
Also - "fan outrage" could be known as "fauxtrage" in many cases |

Considering that the FIA insists that the McLaren rear wing meets all the criteria set out in the regulations, then the only logical explanation is that the FIA has succumbed to the lobbying by Horner, and possibly others, and have pressured McLaren "in the interests of the sport" to modify the rear wing, and thus shut Horner up.

Well, we don't know yet as they were using a different rear wing today. The only time that they might use the Baku wing for the rest of the season could be at Las Vegas, although even that is not known yet by the team. This is according to the BBC website a couple of days ago. |
