which in a way means that OP can go on to win multiple titles and still his first win will always have a similar sort of asterisks attached to it. not a bad thing mind you, its a team sport and all that jazz, just saying that fans with long memories naturally attach asterisks to all sorts of things! anyways, hope his 2nd win comes soon because after that is when we will see the real fireworks erupt between this young and very talented pairing. |

Both McLaren drivers joint the "one hit wonders" club this year and both get themselves out of the club this year - surely that must be a first for a team to have both drivers do that in one season? Well, other than 1950 with Fangio and Farini of course, but to be expected in the first year of F1.
Oh and big congratulations to both Lando and Oscar - both having a stellar (see what I did there?) year so far. |

The original question was in and out of the One hit wonders in one season, and then for both drivers of a team.
Originally rather difficult, because there were teams with more than 2 drivers, so that was more or less impossible for the whole team. And then there are much more fluid line-ups initially. Anyway, there are quite a bit more drivers who won their first race in a certain season and followed that up with another win that season. We could argue about 1950, when 2 Alfa drivers did that, but other than that, the McLaren team is the first that did it with all their drivers. 1950: Farina and Fangio, 2 of the Alfa drivers, so doubtful 1951: Ascari. Only 1 of the team 1954: Hawthorn, Vukovic, Gonzalez: None of them. First victory all in a different season 1956: Collins. Only 1 of the team 1959: Brabham. Only 1 of the team 1961: Von Trips. Only 1 of the team 1962: Clark and G.Hill, Only 1 per team 1967: Hulme. Only 1 of the team 1973: Peterson. Only 1 of the team 1973: Revson. Only 1 of the team 1974: Lauda, Only 1 of the team 1974: Reutemann, Only 1 of the team 1974: Scheckter, Only 1 of the team [1974 Clay Regazzoni: Not Regazzoni. First victory in a different season] [1979 Alan Jones, Gilles Villeneuve, Jacques Laffite, Patrick Depailler: None of them. First victory all in a different season] 1980: Arnoux. Only 1 of the team 1980: Piquet. Only 1 of the team 1980: Pironi. Only 1 of the team [1980 Jean-Pierre Jabouille. Not Jabouille. First Victory in a different season] 1981: Prost. Only 1 of the team [1983 Riccardo Patrese, Michele Alboreto, Keke Rosberg, Patrick Tambay: Not Alboreto, Patrese, Rosberg. First victory in a different season] 1985: Mansell. Only 1 of the team 1985: Senna. Only 1 of the team [1985 Elio de Angelis: Not De Angelis. First Victory in a different season] 1989: Boutsen. Only 1 of the team 1993: D. Hill. Only 1 of the team 1995: Herbert. Only 1 of the team 1996: J.Villeneuve. Only 1 of the team 1999: Irvine. Only 1 of the team 2001: R.Schumacher. Only 1 of the team 2006: Massa. Only 1 of the team 2007: Hamilton. Only 1 of the team 2009: Webber. Only 1 of the team 2009 Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button, Mark Webber: Not Vettel, Button. First victory in a different season 2014: Ricciardo. Only 1 of the team 2017: Bottas. Only 1 of the team 2019: Leclerc. Only 1 of the team 2024: Norris and Piastri, All of the McLaren drivers, so a first. |

Thank you Henk, that is brilliant - really appreciate the time you put into it.
Yeah, felt like a "first" for McLaren to me & I really don't count 1950 as it was the first year of F1 so previous wins didn't count towards the "one hit wonder" scoreboard. Makes it a pretty special year we're experiencing! |
