Supercars, Repco and Bathurst City Council will need to get a better aviation advisor/consultant for next year!

Happy to see Todd get a chance to stand in the spotlight. Very good drive, and Brodie and Brock drove the final laps very well.

Mr Hazelwood said in the press conference that he would rather stick to driving 2 rounds being super competitive rather than endure 12 rounds of frustration.

We shall see where he lands..

The brand manager at Chiko must be over the moon with the exposure this weekend.
Haven’t seen so many mentions of a one off title branding for a long time..

Can we possibly see the Ten Tenors perform the National anthem at more events?
Very clear, powerful voices that really made a statement.

Hindsight is, as always, 20-20...

Reynolds and Team 18 lost their chance at Sunday glory on Friday, as did Car 17. 888 were formidably pacy, Whincup's Cutting hiccup notwithstanding, WAU lacked outright pace: if Mostert couldn't challenge for the front row, that car wasn't going to run with the Bulls on the day. Grove showed a stack of potential to have the leading Mustang on the day, but I was unsure if they truly have the depth of resource to prevail on motorsport's Longest Day.

I also had questions over whether or not Erebus had the car Brodie would need to win: what was evident, though, was that Kostecki and Commins were in the headspace to win the thing.

Qualifying didn't provide any real surprises in the end.

Race Day did though: the Mustangs were patently being pushed harder than was prudent, which was borne out by trips up escape roads under brakes. The Payne long jump record attempt looked like it could derail their final race preparation.

That car #1 resolutely walked away from the field and made a 3 second gap that never really wavered through the first stint surprised me a little: I fully expected 88 to run him close through that first stint. That Whincup didn't really make an impression in the second was a greater surprise. Sure, he made back the 3 seconds that they dropped in the pit stop, but he didn't really get any closer than Broc had been to Brodie in the first stanza. Big kudos to TFH for his drive on the day!

Reynolds squaring up his front tyre so early, and trying to stick it out hurt their race, but that car wasn't at all fast anyway.

Tander's error at Murray's was a setback for that car. I questioned if he really needed to be pressing so hard at that stage of the day... at least him firing off the end of the straight precluded him from taking somebody else out unnecessarily.

While the internets was full of people whinging that it was boring, I couldn't help but think that they obviously didn't remember what it was like in the days before safety cars, when the likes of Brock or Moffat would simply march away from the rest of the fleet and the race was done by lunchtime. Car #1 was only headed in the pitstop dances, and really, pulling a ten second gap wasn't nearly as crushing as leading by six laps.

I think that had we seen earlier safety car intervention, the result may not have been quite so certain if Todd had had to go wheel to wheel with the Red Bulls. Still, that Brodie walked away from Broc in the last 30 laps showed their will to win.

For mine, it was an engaging race, and a well-deserved victory for Car 1

There is always a d***head minority trying to spoil someones day

I hope for the guilty ones sake, authorities find them before Barry Ryan does.

No, second thoughts they deserve what they get. There is no room for this sort of behaviour, certainly not in motor racing.

I'd rather watch the '79 race than re-watch yesterday's race any day of the week.

Brock might have won by six laps but with a 55-car field made up of largely amateur teams with a handful of professional teams there was always a story unfolding. To put it bluntly - something was happening.

Like it or not, a MSR or BJR car circulating mid pack or at the tail end does not make for a good story.

Gricey catching Richards in the light dizzle during the '79 race to be in with a chance only for Costanzo, having taken over from Grice, give the Torana a wheel alignment courtesy of the armco at Skyline and lose any chance is a story.

Or for Johnson to have a wheel break in the early laps and hit the armco. Spend several hours repairing it, only for Garry Scott to spin and crash at Girffin's bend is a story.

In the lead up to this year's race I watched the '78 and '80 races (for the umpteenth time). There are dozens of stories taking place amongst the entire field. From the Gemini that rolled in the 1978 race, only to reappear repaired sometime later to the great drive of Pete Geoghegan in the 1980 race.

Bill Tuckey was critical of Channel Seven presenting the Great Race as an episode of "That's Incredible". I never understood his reasoning. The Great Race was like an episode of "That's Incredible" and that was a good thing.

Today the Great Race might be the least interesting of the championship races. It is certainly the least interesting of the three endurance races held at the Mountain each year IMHO.

Surely the stories of various privateer cars happen in the Bathurst 6 hour Production car race now? That had 61 entries!

It seems the size of the entry list is inversely proportional to the number of spectators.

Often those calling for a return to those days don't even realize the 6 hour exists.

My argument that there were more stories back in the day could apply equally to any category of modern motorsport.

No-one is turning up to Indy with a turbine or crossing their fingers that their powerful yet fragile stock block Buick will last the distance.

But looking forward to the next round, as I have enjoyed the championship this year. There has been some good racing.
