New controversy: Red Bull have a device for adjusting the front bib height between qualifying and the race (when the car is in parc ferme). They claim it doesn't influence performance but will have to delete it for Austin and onwards.
So, it doesn't influence performance. Why did they do it? To stop the mechanics getting bored? The issue does raise a point that has always puzzled me, and it applies to every car on the grid. How can cars be sparking like crazy during qually when they are running on minimum fuel, then spark less at the start of the race when they have 100kg on board? |

All cars will modify the bib height through the season, as required for different tracks and setups. RBR built their car in such a way that making these adjustments is achieved through this device (other teams may require components to be removed for modification). The FIA have introduced controls to make sure that the device is not exploited under parc ferme. Quote:

I don't really know the rationale behind the no setup changes and parc ferme conditions after quali. I can understand if it stops teams from fitting expensive "short life" quali spec parts which are then changed before the race, but if its just making basic setup changes (ride height, camber, spring rates, damper rates, roll bar etc), then I don't see the problem in allowing all of that...?

Would this then also allow them to make ride height changes faster or in a less obvious way pre race, on the grid, during pit stops?

US GP is on this weekend.
Without Mr D.Ricciardo in a VCaRB. Life moves on. The world moves on. Doesn’t mean it is better or worse. Just moved on. |

Between Q1 and the GP Lawson showed why he should be there and why ,if he continues at that level ,he should replace Perez in 2025. Lawson should have been in the RB seat all year.Mark Hughes said in The Race podcast on Ricciardo’s retirement that it was obvious to everyone in the paddock at the end of last year that he was no longer the driver he had been 4-5 years before and if that was the case at his age he served no purpose in the Red Bull driving line up.Except maybe as a pawn in the Horner/Marko wars. |
