Nascar Hall of Famer Bobby Allison has passed at age 86.

He was in the twilight of his career when I first knew his name. His last race win at the Daytona 500 in 1988 is probably my lasting memory of him but he sadly could not remember it himself, after his crash at Pocono later that year.

I saw him a few times (aside from the televised races). My favorite time was 1976 Daytona 24, which had a class for Nascar cars. Bobby and his brother Donny ran a Chevy Nova. They boomed around. Exiting the Daytona hairpin they would plant the peddle and power slide out of the corner, roaring. Having the time of their lives! Bobby was a racer!

He drove the BRE Datsun 510 ' guest car, some in 2.5 Trans Am. He was a racer. May he RIP.
He would wave from the sideways Nova at Daytona, the time of his life.
