No real surprise, however I think that news confirms the end of the Lambo Hypercar program in the WEC as I can't see Iron Lynx running both program's

Awesome news; hopefully this increases Mercedes interest in doing a future Hypercar program.

Since Iron Lynx runs the car in IMSA as well, certainly that would mean the removal the car from ISMA as well? Or are they planning on running the Lambo in IMSA, and Mercedes in WEC? Or is there word of another team running the Lambo going forward?

Sad to see Lamborghini bow out if this is (very likely) the case, but it's about time Mercedes were in the WEC.


Lambo's loss is AMG's gain - someone at Mercedes has done well to secure such a well-established and well-run team for a WEC effort.

I adore that Lambo one of the best looking and sounding Hypercars, I hope it goes OK in the USA and at least they find a backer financially for it, seems the Iron Lynx guy was over spending maybe?

Surely there's a team out there that has the resources to take the Lambo project on; a very fast car not far off from the leaders, fans love the look of the car, etc. With the car scoring the best lap at Daytona just a few days ago, it would then be weird if this Mercedes deal had been approved for some time.

I might be remembering wrong, but I'm sure I read somewhere that the car needs a lot of money spending on it for development because things were rushed to get the car ready for the 2024 season.

Just wondering re: the Mercedes entry, wasn't there a requirement for a manufacturer to have a Hypercar before being granted a GT3 entry. Was that ever set in stone, or has the world and the WEC moved on? I'm all for them entering, and i guess having them only raises the profile of the series and the other teams, but was just curious.

I believe the requirement is either a hypercar entry or a team with ACO history (that is how McLaren (United) and Ford (Proton) got their entries).

Since the Huracan already competed in WEC/ELMS last season, I think that means it remains eligible for those two series since it went through the specific LMGT3 homologation. I believe you can just use an SRO-spec GT3 for Asian Le Mans, no need for the LMGT3 requirements.
