What did Kanann say?

Does anyone know what Kanann said on his radio when he was informed about his black flag? Varsh said it was too harsh for TV.

They were also saying that his clutch "slipped" on his pit stop. No way! Those tires were spin like he had the hammer down. Clutch slipping my arse.

Do you really want to know what he said? If so, just ask yourself what you would say if you just lost your chance to end the season with a much needed win.... it wouldn't be pretty, now, would it. Imagine the filthiest language you could muster, and thats close enough. Need more help?

No, the words he said were more concerned with the ancestry of the CART officials and their probable future destination. I really don't think he knew how bad the situation was in the pits at that point. He spoke to no one after the race, he was quite distraught when he found out.

Concerning the fire...

I've always felt that the cars should be kept in the air until after the fuel hose is disengaged and the entire crew is clear. The connection for the airjacks should be on the rear wing, and it would be this crewmember responsible for giving the "go ahead" and dropping the car when safe to do so. CART should mandate this, for safety's sake. That fire in Kanaan's pits was a terrible reminder, and hopefully it'll also be a wakeup call.

One of the (many) things the ALMS has right - no work on the car until the fuel is done.

Mind you, in a non-sprint race, you can make the pit stops as onerous as you like. Everyone has to make 'em. (Meanwhile, Audi comes up with direct injection to reduce the number of pitstops for fuel needed. And Brock Yates says racing no longer improves the breed!

Macdaddy- you're onto something good with your idea of re-doing the air jack let-down arrangement. How about a red light that turns to green that is activated by the fuel probe as it is disengaged from the filler neck of the car. This would be proof positive that everyone, including the driver, could see. Of course, the wheel changers would also have to give their approval before the car hits the deck.

So have five red lights in a circular pattern, as each thing is completed the light turns green. When the whole thing is green, THEN you can engage the clutch and go!

But Le Mans rules would be easier.

Yeah, Andretti in Rio'00 ran over two mechanics. He finished 9th, but he was DQed afterwards
