F1 perfomance ?
How come I can not find any figure for 1/4 mile times for a F1
I remeber jack stewart saying at the Melbourne GP a F1 car gore from 0-260kph in 380m and around 4 sec to the first braking point Is this right ? if so what is the 1/4 stat's does anyone know? |

Performance figures are notoriously difficult to get for F1 cars. Things like top speed, 0-60 etc...
This partly because F1 teams don't want to publicise this info (although it's not really that useful to others). Overall the lack of info is probably mainly because this data would change dramatically depending on set-up (gear ratios, wing levels, etc...). Additionally an F1 car isn't designed to do a standing 1/4 mile as quickly as possible - it is designed to lap a track as quickly as possible. The figures will be impressive (compared to a road car), but probably quite pedestrian compared to a dragster! Having said that, I wouldn't mind knowing! Someone out there must know (?). You may have more luck in the racing technology forum. I'll move this post there in a bit, when it's had more chance to be answered in the F1 forum... |

0-60's boring... It's the 60-200 that'll snap your neck!

1/4mile(402m) 5.2sec braking from 100kmh-0 3.5sec Figures would vary because of LC, tyres used, wings setup (downforce) etc |

Thanx Mr V & Adam
I though 5.0sec bracket would be about right . I realise F1 is not designed for 1/4 ( thank god Boorrring ) but with the figures J.Stewart was saying a F1 car should be in the Top Fuel bracket because there running low to mid 5's I though F1 teams didn't release figure to shame another class cos I was guessing high 4's -low 5's with take off figure's at 0-260kph in 4 sec's in 380meter's ( if J.Syewart was right) GOD I LUV THESE CARS |

Is that right? 5.2 seconds sounds really fast, really really fast. Its a shame I have never seen these cars race in person. I am a fan of drag racing too and I see cars with 1300 hp barely making it into the six second range. When these cars launch it seems like the Earth shifts under them. As for the "Good ol boys" that run 4 second runs...
TV does not do the cars justice at all. Leaving the line the TC makes them seem to crawl. Even without the TC they never seemed that fast. I was thinking in the 6 to seven second range. 5.2 seconds would mean a trap speed of about... ahh 250 maybe! Good God! Then again weight is a huge factor. The motor in some dragsters weigh more than the F1 car itself. I want one. |

Autocar do an annual 0 - 100mph - 0 test on roadcars. This year, as a comparison, they got hold of a Jaguar R3.
0 - 100mph - 0 was around 5.2 seconds, less than half the time of the fastest road car! They did a standing mile, which the Jag topped out at 215mph, which suggests it wasn't even set up on short ratios !! |

There is no way an F1 car is going to do a 1/4 mile in 5 seconds. Drag racers have thousands of horsepower, gigantic tires and weigh little more than an F1 car but don't go much faster than that.
Road and Track magazine says 9.4 seconds for a Jag R1. Some guy collected the data on his website: http://members.fortunecity.com/carst...0f1%202000.htm |

That sounds more realistic. I have seen drag racers with way more power and torque not be able to run 5.2.
That was not funny!! |

Well..i certainly thought it was funny for a while...just wanna if anyone would buy my word. Anyway...brake test had been made by the McLaren in the past against their IRL, the Merc German Touring and their AMG-tuned Mercedes C36
Read about it here http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines01/07/s6165.html |
