Barcelona & Valencia testing
Morning times from Barcelona showed Pizzonia fastest in the Jag, from Luca Badoer (Ferrari).
Hopefully not a sign of things to come, but Mark Webber only managed two laps before the Jaguar broke down.... Also out were the Toyota's with Da Matta miles off the pace, after easing himself in slowly. 1 Antonio Pizzonia (Jaguar) 1m19.797s 2 Luca Badoer (Ferrari) 1m19.947s 3 Anthony Davidson (BAR-Honda) 1m22.679s 4 Olivier Panis (Toyota) 1m23.455s 5 Cristiano da Matta (Toyota) 1m26.153 6 Mark Webber (Jaguar) no time Meanwhile at Valencia (am), Kimi was fastest in the McLaren from Montoya, with Pantano very impressive in his first run out for Williams. 1 Kimi Raikkonen (McLaren-Mercedes) 1m13.875s 2 Juan-Pablo Montoya (Williams-BMW) 1m14.478s 3 Nick Heidfeld (Sauber-Petronas) 1m14.784s 4 Alexander Wurz (McLaren-Mercedes) 1m14.827s 5 Giorgio Pantano (Williams-BMW) 1m14.894s 6 Jarno Trulli (Renault) 1m15.390s 7 Marc Gene (Williams-BMW) 1m16.257s 8 Franck Montagny (Minardi-European) 1m17.043s 9.Sergey Zlobin (Minardi-European) 1m25.491s |

Luca, also worth pointing out that Franck's time was done in the old PS01 Minardi, with their equally old revamped cossie based V10 in the back.

I hate these winter testing times. What can we really guage from them? I'd love these times to be an accurate idea for the season to come but I seriously doubt it.

A good showing from Pizzonia so far, lets just hope he can keep going. With Webber and Pizzonia at Jag I think we are going to see a big improvement, particaly now theyve got rid of Lauda.

Just about the only meaningful things that one can get from these tests are which teams complete the most laps, and which drivers are at work. And even that information is of very little use. Still, since nothing much else is going on I'll throw in my tuppence'swrth...
Both Ferrari race drivers are apparently off until the new year. da Matta needs as much of this testing as he can get to get aclimatised to F1 - whereas Panis will be keen to keep his rookie team-mate well down below him on the time-sheets. Minardi will be trying all sorts of drivers, which is nice. Don't expect to see Jaques getting his hands dirty. Jaguar will be looking to show strongly at the top of the time sheets during this week of bad news for them. Ah - whatever. |

What happened to Zlobin? 8 seconds slower than his teammate?! I hope he's just a test driver. |

According to the Minardi notes from today's testing at Valencia, Zlobin's time in the afternoon was 1.21.880, not 1.17.302.

Tuesday times:
Barcelona - 1. L. Badoer (Ferrari) 1m18.580s - 82 laps 2. A. Pizzonia (Jaguar Racing) 1m19.797s - 65 laps 3. O. Panis (Toyota) 1m19.854s - 42 laps 4. A. Davidson (BAR) 1m21.733s - 57 laps 5. C. da Matta (Toyota) 1m21.925s - 42 laps Pizzonia looks good, the Jag must be better then Toyota still if he can beat off Panis. Da Mattas still coming to terms with F1 cars it seems. Shame about the BAR. Valencia - 1. JP Montoya (Williams) 1:13.346 - 52 laps 2. K Raikkonen (McLaren) 1:13.574 - 57 laps 3. N Heidfeld (Sauber) 1:15.017 - 48 laps 4. A Wurz (McLaren) 1:15.097 - 15 laps 5. J Trulli (Renault) 1:15.376 - 36 laps 6. G Pantano (Williams) 1:15.531 - 69 laps 7. M Gene (Williams) 1:15.958 - 12 laps 8. F Montagny (Minardi) - 1:17.031 - 28 laps 9. S Zlobin (Minardi) - 1:17.302 - 29 laps McLarens & Sauber look strong, perhaps both will move up the grid next year. Zlobin is getting better. |
