Now the important question are any of the European dates going to be in the UK?

The answer is unfortunately no ALMS rounds in the UK.

Silverstone had been pencilled in but has now been ruled out as the two Europe dates above fall near the British GP and the Coys festival.

The European rounds are now likely to be at Spa and the Nurburgring, with the Asia round at Sepang.

I thout that the series was not going to race in san diego because the track was to short?

Did they chance there minds?

The Grand Prix of San Diego has been cancelled permanently. The track was just too short, 1.4 miles, and the city was not able to get on top of the logistics of closing down a large section of downtown streets. Imagine a 42 car field on a 1.4 mile street course. The top LMP's would be into the back of the GT3's before the first lap was over.

there was also a planned race in Malaysia on december 3 wich has now been scrapped due to a muslim festival on the same weekend and the organizers dont want to offend anyone so they have scrapped the race all together

Just got this new schedule with a little bit of story thing with it from a newsgroup. It also has TV stations showing it, and so far no mention of Aus TV.

INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 13, 2000 - The American Le Mans Series finalized its
2000 racing schedule today by announcing that the second-year sports car
league will race at the famed European courses of Silverstone in England
on Saturday, May 13 and Nurburgring in Germany on July 9.

The announcement gave the series 12 races on three continents for the 2000
racing campaign.

Eurosport will televise the 500-kilometer Silverstone event live and the
1,000-kilometer Nurburgring race on a same-day delayed basis in Europe.
Speedvision and Fox Sports Net will provide coverage of the events in
North America.

Both European events will begin in daylight and end at dusk to add a
unique element for sports car fans.

Purse for each of the European events will be $100,000 and teams from
North America will be provided with a transportation allowance by the
series.

In conjunction with the American Le Mans Series agreement with the
Automobile Club l'Ouest, organizers of the historic 24 Hours of Le Mans,
the Nurburgring round will also be designated as a pre-qualifying event
for Le Mans in 2001. The Sept. 30 Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta will be a
pre-qualifier for Le Mans for the third time and the new Race of 1,000
Years Dec. 31 in Adelaide, Australia, will be another.

With the finalizing of the European races, the series and SPORTS CAR, its
sanctioning organization, established that its 2000 championships would be
determined by the best 10 of 12 finishes in the final point standings in
each class.

To compete for money in the series' privateer point fund, teams must
participate in eight of the 12 races on the schedule, one of which must be
abroad. The eight-race 1999 privateer fund totaled $955,000 and with the
additional four events for 2000, it is expected to be over $1 million.

"Historically, the United Kingdom fans have been the most loyal supporters
of the 24 Hours of Le Mans," said Don Panoz, founder of the American Le
Mans Series, "and we are delighted to bring the American Le Mans Series to
Silverstone for their enjoyment. Nurburgring is one of the most
prestigious tracks in Europe, and it will be a perfect venue for the
German manufacturers -- Audi, BMW and Porsche."
