Of course this doesn't apply to me because mine is an Alpina!
Certainly someone is suffering from beemers envy! (say it quick) |

Ah Bella if only you knew the full potential. Actually it is off the road with a coil problem. It fell off cos the inner wing rusted away. As it turns out I am quite glad because I have the Scooby and it just loves the snow.

you'd be surprised. i learnt to drive in a b10 3.5 b reg, and my dad's just got his grubby little paws on a b10 bi turbo k reg beauty from germany. my dream car is a b3 (b10's are far too big for me), posing car would be a b3 convertible, but not for driving quickly because convertibles are cr*p for chassis rigidity.

Mine is an 1989 C2. I do love its handling but the brakes have always been ****. 2.5 laps of Knockhill does it. it has 125k miles on it and it is getting rusty.

the b reg we've got (and still run out in france as a runabout) has done a good 180,000 miles now, and the chassis has been repaired for rust so many times it's ridiculous. one of my favourite drives of all time was on the way up a hill, a kind of tarmac-ed over pikes peak of a road with a few more undulations and less height to climb. did it in second and third on occasions in the high revs and it still pulled so much power it was amazing. gone into the corner a bit too fast? doesn't matter. floor it and you'll be fine. we've had a nearly new m3 and you can't trust it to the same extent you can the ratty old b10. their handling is indeed legendary.

I know what you are saying but I am afraid that time has caught up with the old warriors. I used to live up in the wilds of aberdeenshire with some superb empty roads to blast and i thought the Alpina was the bees knees. then one day a friend turned up in a UK spec impreza turbo and it was just as good but with a more comfortable ride.

i guess it wins out on the 4wd thing? i've not driven a proper car for a good month now (my mate's 1 litre corsa really doesn't count, with respect to it), so i'd better shut up... :S
my 316i 10 year old soapdish went faster round corners than the m3 convertible. and the 316 had some very second hand shock absorbers... the alpinas are a good european made equivalent to the subaru i reckon. i'd rather be in total control than have a load of gizmos doiing my dirty work... |

My ex had a 316i coupe. It handled OK in the dry but was bloody awful in the wet and as for the snow.....

found that because my 316 didn't have any power steering i could feel everything that was going on, which really helped. oddly i don't behave like a bmw driver unless i'm in my dad's vw caravelle... |

Yep - I still recall that little trip into Buckingham which saw us scrape the doorhandles outside Stowe School And, of course, 'Silverstone - The Return', as we passed the security check point at 60mph...
